Any color style (full color, base color, screentone, etc) is completely fine! And comics are welcome too if you have the time for them!

The only real “requirement” is to make sure it’s not too sketchy

Hi! Regarding the AO3 results to check if a pairing is rarepair or not, do you count fics wherein the pairing is only mentioned/implied/background (not focused)?

We are trying not to, though some may slip through the cracks. If you have a specific pairing in mind, you can message us and we can work to see if the pairing would be considered rare or not!

1. How did you end up in this blue void Tumblr and what made you stay? - Was pulled in here because of friend pressure from people who were already on here. Stayed because...well, why do any of us stay? We find blogs, we meet people, we find our fandoms, and the next thing we know we’ve stayed up reblogging a metric fuckton of things or checking our follower count or the notes on a post we made, and on and on and on. But mostly I stayed for the content, especially once I found the STEAM and history blogs.

2. What workpiece (art/written work/play/speech/song/etc.) influenced you the most, and still affects you to this day? Do you still go back to it once in a while? - Hmm... Mostly books, really. And anime. Dinotopia by James Gurney, an illustrated version of Homer’s Odyssey, and Jurassic Park (book and movie). Then I discovered Lord of the Rings (books) when I was twelve, which coincided more or less with a fairly hardcore entrance into anime fandom at around the same time, which was then followed up by Harry Potter waltzing into my life when I was fourteen or so (during a time when no one else I knew was reading these books). You have to understand that this was long, long before social media even existed, which really dates me as a participant in fandom.

3. 3 is my fave number!! If you have one, what’s yours? Why/why not? - I don’t really have a favorite number, but when people ask, I tend to shift around between 7, 8, 9, and 11. Any higher than that and I start looking for a random number generator.

4. 4 was my class number during my shittiest year of high school. What seemingly mundane thing holds some deep meaning to you? If you’re willing to share, what memory/meaning is it attached to? - Not sure what you mean by “mundane”, really. If it’s important, it isn’t mundane, and if it is, I tend not to attach much meaning to it. But if by “mundane” you mean “something inexpensive that you’re attached to”, then it would have to be the bookmarks that people have given me over the years. I lose quite a few of them, but they’re all important.

5. What’s your opinion on the thought that cartoons and anime (and everything related to them) are “only for kids”? Why do you think it’s such a firm thought among some people? - I don’t think cartoons and anime are “just for kids”. Over the years, animation studios around the world have proven that animation is a valid technique for telling stories that are pretty damn grown-up: I like using Studio Ghibli’s Grave of the Fireflies as an example, because for years Ghibli’s been associated with “kiddie” or “kid-friendly” material, but Grave of the Fireflies is anything BUT “kiddie”. Animation is a storytelling technique; you cannot attach “adultness” to a technique. Live-action films are classified as “for kids” or “for adults” based on content, not on their technique, and the same SHOULD be applied to animation. Unfortunately, people of a certain generation (or certain pretensions) still think (or pretend to think) that animation is “just for kids”; for some of them, they’re just too old, and for those who are just being pretentious, they’re just sadsacks who don’t have hearts and don’t like being happy.

6. My dog just suddenly came into my room and showered me with Affection. What good thing happened upon you lately? Alternatively, what good thought suddenly pops into your head and cheers you up at that moment? - I suddenly got a new TV. There’s something wrong with the cable feed, but it reads stuff off a USB, so that’s just fine.

7. There are superstitions and sayings of old that people still believe in, or at least do for the sake of it. (Like for example, I say, “Bless you” to whoever sneezes within my hearing range. It’s weird, I don’t see any reasoning behind it, but I do it anyway). What superstition do you still practice, or find yourself doing? - I still believe in the thing that says a butterfly crossing your path is the spirit of some dearly-departed person paying you a visit. The fact that these close encounters of the lepidopteran kind happen in the city, and seemed to happen most frequently immediately after someone close to me passed away just makes me think that these things aren’t really coincidence. Also: I read the Tarot, with a fairly high degree of accuracy. I’m rusty right now, but if I really applied myself I think I could get my old level of insight back, and at my peak my accuracy was high enough to spook me a bit.

8. How many songs have you collected over the years? Do you play them all at random or have you organized them into playlists to listen to? - Oh man. OH MAN. Um. I’ve collected A LOT. I’ve LOST a lot too. What I do have, though, is pretty well-organized, so yeah. I like knowing where everything is.

9. Do you think it’s possible for people to not be part of a fandom? What do you think they do with their time? - I think it’s possible, though that’s fairly rare, since most people who aren’t in fandom ARE actually in fandom, they just don’t have a word for it. That being said, I’m sure they have lives they attend to, and responsibilities that need accomplishing, and hobbies they do for fun. Not everyone has to be in fandom after all, and not everyone in fandom is 100% in fandom all the time.

10. What underrated show/book/dish/webcomic/anything would you recommend to people? - ODY-C by Matt Fraction and Christian Ward. Was just introduced to it by Hope, and OH MY GOD IT IS WONDERFUL. I’ve been a fan of Homer’s Odyssey since I was around ten or so AND THIS IS AN AMAZING ADAPTATION THAT COMBINES EYE-MELTING VISUALS WITH A GENDER-BENDING AND SPACE OPERA AND L;KJSDFL;KAJSD;LFKJASL;DKJFAL;SKDJF. Please read it everyone, especially if you’re into the classics. I’m quite sure you’ll appreciate it.

11. With the holidays coming up, name one thing that’s on your wishlist :3c - On the never-going-to-get-but-want-anyway side of the list: people to collaborate with on this thing I’m sitting on. It’s a world, really, or a concept for a world, but it needs stories and characters and just THINGS to live in it. It’s too big, I can’t bring it to life on my own. But on the more realistic side of things: one cannot have too many coloring pencils. Or a whole strawberry shortcake from Paper Moon.
