Happy Tuesday!
I’m here for the beads, shells and braids trend that has resurfaced. It’s been around for ages in the black community but Solange has brought it back to life in her recent video ‘Dont Touch My Hair‘. Just like she brought back the 90s patra braids/Poetic Justice braids trend a few years back.

Patricia Rushen-The Originator
I am always down for a good hair trend. I am so inspired by current and past hairstyles. However, I like to add my own twist because every trend may not look good on me. When I look at Solange’s hair, I definitely see singer Patrice Rushen, pictured down below (*ques* You Remind Me). Her hairstylist Nikki Nelms even said ( here) that Patrice Rushen was the hairspiration for the look above.

My Hairspirations
I LOVE both styles on them but neither one is practical or “conducive to my lifestyle” (I just wanted to say that last bit..lol). But seriously, super cute. Just not practical for Amma Mama and my zumba classes. For a photoshoot maybe. For my current hairstyle, I was inspired by a few people! First, my favorite YouTube naturalista Laila aka neffyfrofro (her tutorial is here). Thelma from Good Times (specifically this episode where she tried to run off and marry her Nigerian boo Ibe). See their pics below!

The Hairstyle Keeps on Giving
I saw Brandy Sunday night at the Silver Spring Fillmore. Sidenote: She is AMAZING live! Anywho. I switched up the style. Instead of the two buns, I did my crown twists. I loved the outcome so much that I rocked it yesterday (11.21) for my birthday!!
Birthday fun with my Godmom
London’s Beautii switched up the braids so below is how I am currently rocking it.
Thanks London’s Beautii
Special thanks to my hairstylist London’s Beautii for bringing my hair visionS to life. Even down to the amount of shells and hair cuffs I wanted. She’s the best! You can view some other hairstyles she did for me here. We have some much fun creating and seeking hairspiration!
Thanks for reading and happy birthday to me! I turned 29 yesterday (11/21)! I feel BLESSED to see another year and come into my own. Thank you Jesus! HOWEVER, I am still trying to process the fact that this is the last year of my 20s. Seperate blog post on my b-day festivities and current emotions coming soon..lol For now, you can check out last year’s birthday post Turning 28 and Feeling Old.
