From the time a caterpillar hatches, it goes through a series of molts, shedding its skin as it matures. One day, it hangs from a leaf, forms into a chrysalis, and begins to destroy itself; releasing enzymes that dissolves its body. The unrecognizable goop is a chunky soup of cells, but in those cells is the framework of a butterfly; a framework that carried the data for its wings long before it hatched into a caterpillar.
