a few years ago, day one of my masters’ degree, a soon to be good friend remarked after exchanging pleasantries; “cello eh, do you like Arthur Russell?”  

with no previous knowledge of this unique individual and his output, the last three years have been a truly fascinating experience - discovering the sheer depth in Russell’s music.

the obsessive nature in which Arthur utilized the studio as a compositional tool, combined with his stunningly crafted mixing of sonic textures opened a whole new world for me.  And through these doors of discovery the beginning of just how amazing the cello can be as songwriting companion.   

focusing predominantly on his works featuring cello, voice and electronics I have completed a handful of transcriptions of Arthur’s songs performing some of them as part of my set in my solo project.  www.vaudreymusic.com
