"Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust" movie by Yoshiaki Kawajiri has been remastered (from 35mm negative film). Limited Blu-ray box is coming in Japan (english + japanese dubs). Can't wait to see the quality. I've always drooled over the cels.

Note: the film will also be re-released in Japan in around 60 cinemas on February 28.

The galloping horse is considered one of the first true subjects of the cinematic image, beginning in 1878 with Eadweard Muybridge's The Horse in Motion. This first film became a major element in motion design and the understanding of the persistence of vision i.e: how many frames it takes for the eye to see a continuous image.

These studies became the groundwork for stop motion and cel animation, helping animators see exactly, frame by frame, how locomotion works. Each of these films uses a different type of media: paint, puppets, cutout, and celluloid, to create charming horse characters and visually beautiful scenes.

Sometimes the goal is to have a working pen, even if it isn't quite what it used to be.

The Modern Stripe version of the Eversharp Skyline is rare and highly collectable, so the one I managed to snag had a damaged barrel and needed a new nib. Fortunately I had a vintage Sheaffer #3 nib that fit perfectly. The barrel was missing the very tip, so I plugged the hole with some black Milliput epoxy and polished it to match the overall shape. I think it works pretty well.

The Sheaffer nib performs as a Sheaffer nib should: smoothly and with great shading. The striped celluloid is both elegant and dramatic. The barrel repair blends in well. It may be a frankenpen, but who cares? It looks good and it writes better.
