19: underwater kiss
It’s been a long, long time since Seunghyun had gone swimming. It wasn’t his favorite past-time, honestly, and actually was sort of something he would normally avoid. He was built of fire and scales, not pretty to look at underneath his clothes, no matter how much he ever worked out. The horns and ruggedness on his shoulders and upper arms were things he did his best 110% of the time to hide, ashamed of the deformities on his body. Not to mention the fires in his chest, the burning sensations that accosted him sometimes. He didn’t know how to stop them, and dunking underwater had never helped.
Even worse, he’d grown up with a dreadful fear of water. He didn’t know how to swim. Swimming was a confusing sport to him because sometime people did it for fun, but then other times they did it to not die, and Seunghyun was always really bad at telling the difference.
So of course, once he’d confided his fears to his good friend Nichkhun, it was decided that he would need to face them. He was promised that it would be in total secrecy, so he didn’t need to worry about anyone but Nichkhun seeing his scales (or making fun of him because he would only stay in the kiddie-pool area). And true to his word, Nichkhun brought him to an indoor pool in the middle of the night.
Nichkhun wanted to show Seunghyun how to swim, but after only a few tries, it was apparent how hopeless this case was. Seunghyun couldn’t stop clinging to the walls, like a drowned cat, only seconds away from crawling the fuck out of here. He hated this already and all the water was making him paranoid and claustrophobic.
“Just let go of the wall!”
“No! What if I drown?”
“I’m right here, I’m not going to let you-”
“I’m like twice your size okay, you wouldn’t be able to lift me up-”
“You are not-!”
They bickered like this for a few minutes until Nichkhun decided the only way to get Seunghyun into the water was to force him. So he attacked Seunghyun and dragged him down, causing a splashing fight before turning into an underwater wrestling match. Which didn’t serve Seunghyun at all, given that all he could do was sink.
His hand had just found the wall again, desperately grabbing for it to find a way up to the surface again, before he somehow got tangled in Nichkhun’s arms and bonking faces with him. When he reached the surface at the same time as the other, there was a very long pause between them, the room filled only with their heaving breaths.
“Did you just-” Nichkhun tried to ask.
“No.”
“I think-”
“No.”
“But-”
“No. I’m getting out.” Damn it, Seunghyun hated water.
