Trongsa Dzong Trongsa Dzong is a massive spectacular structure making it the biggest fortress in the Country. It was first built by Yongzin Ngagi Wangchuk, the great grandfather of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1543. The legend tells that, while Yongzin Ngagi Wangchuk was meditating, he saw the flicker of light, resembling butter lamp and at this spot he built the small Tshamkhang, the meditation quarter. Later other disciples has also built the meditation unit around the main Tshamkhang, therefore the cluster of newly built meditation quarters appeared to the people of Yueling like a new village and hence called it " Trongsa " meaning "new village" In 1647, Trongsa Penlop Chogyal Minjur Tenpa constructed the Dzong which resembled a fort and stands always a victory and powerful. There are 26 shrines or Lhakhangs in the Dzong.
