Vaeril Tifaux - 3 mastermind rogue/1 Wizard
A young elf who left his home to make money to help pay for his mother's medical treatment.
Touched with draconic blood, Vaeril was taken into a draconic cult. When his future came into question, his tutor whisked him away from the cult and raised him as her own. Years later, his adopted mother fell ill with a mysterious illness. To help repay his mother, Vaeril sets out on a journey to help pay for her treatment in the North of the continent. He excels with fire magic and is taught to control the battlefield with his tactics. However, his prickly personality and solemn ways make it difficult to connect to his fellow party members outside of battle.
Our calamity campaign poster! our last session is next week 🥺
It's an apocalypse campaign, to try and halt it. To at least lessen its effects we gathered the gods to seal off the other planes, but before we left on our respective missions, Espar and the goddess of mourning turned out to be puppets of the Oblivion. We left Espar behind and banished the goddess, and our group teleported to the source of the Oblivion's madness. Next session we fight it, and it'll be the end 😭
From left back to front:
Brimholdst - our aasimar forge paladin who dreams of only being a hero. No matter the cost.
Lorcan - our firbolg spore druid/ranger and follower of the goddess of mourning. He's the first person to ever resurrect a person and has ascended into the god of change.
Foxglove - the undead fairy Warlock. He followed the god of death but after cursing his name lost his powers. He left our party to journey home and find himself.
Vylwen - our human bloodhunter. His family is cursed with disease. For generations they've tried to atone for their forebearers sins to no avail. Vylwen left his family to find a cure himself.
Espar - ???? Our amnesiac buddy. After finding out that he was a part of a hive mind of bugs worshipping the god of oblivion, we tried to show him a new family. But just before the final battle his mind and body were possessed and he's vanished.
Vindex Pax - my aasimar war cleric and worshipper of the Goddess of War. Formally a human healer named Medicus. When she ascended into an aasimar she cast away her old self to devote herself to defending and protecting the people of the world. She's since ascended into the god of Safeguards
Klaus - the elven wizard. A scholar through and through and wants to understand the nature of divinity and the reason for the new gods. He's quiet and reserved but seems to want this knowledge to come to terms with the death of his brother.
I made Haven with one goal: Have a sadder, edgier and more tragic character than my friend (who consistently just RPs really sad and tragic characters).
So context for the setting: This campaign was set in a dream like world, that was super weird and unique. All aasimar there are intersex, stone statue-like beings and they all basically look the same except they have fighting game colour swaps. They are created from their really weird extra planar dimension called the Evernever and celestials are incomprehensible biblically accurate angels. Thus all the extra eyes, wings and markings.
Haven was raised to be a protector for their village, and they devoted their life to it. They were also married to an elven woman, Aramylla, and became a step-parent to her daughter, Terra. That is until Valdoon, an aasimar who could control the Nightmare, attacked and slaughtered their village and daughter while Haven and their wife went to fight off the attackers.
After the attack, the two swore an oath to get revenge on Valdoon. Due to their angelic nature, the oath changed Haven and that became their sole goal. After years of hunting for Valdoon and finding nothing, Aramylla and Haven parted ways. Aramylla wanted to move on and forget, while Haven couldn't separate themselves from their oath.
After years of traveling and searching again, Haven eventually started to work and adventure with a pair of Genasi: Phillipa, and Cirrius. Unconsciously, Haven started to care and act as their protector, slowly learning to open up and love once again. Their mission to fight the nightmare and seek revenge on Valdoon lessening. That is, until, they met up with other adventurers and met Valdoon face to face. The two fought, but Valdoon was so overwhelming powerful, that Haven couldn't do anything against him. They were then thrown off a bridge and barely survived.
With this, Haven's quest for vengeance returned in full force, and became worse than every before since Valdoon started using the Nightmare to torture and mess with Havens mind. This pushed them to find ways to become more powerful. Phillipa, who Haven had begun to care fore as family begged Haven to wait and work together with the party, had managed to convince Haven. But when another party member, Nyx (an undead warlock), talked to them it backfired. So Haven set off alone to find a wish dragon to find power.
Alone and endlessly tormented from hallucinations from Valdoon and the other celestial bodies fighting for a new champion in Haven, they dreamed for the power to get revenge and an end to the pain. The wish dragon then ceased to exist and Haven became a fallen aasimar, their eyes disappearing, their stone skin cracking, and having sand pour out of them endlessly. They were also cursed to harm anything they touched (1d8 necrotic damage iirc).
Phillipa, hurt and betrayed began to distance herself from Haven, and when she needed help, Haven couldn't even be there to carry and support her.
This campaign also was abandoned lol. I should also mention, most of these are all the same group, we just start new campaigns a lot.
But before we stopped this campaign, my DM and I's plan for Haven was actually to sacrifice themselves to save the party, where they would fully lose their autonomy and become a wandering husk that would fight anything that came near them. I would then play a back up, until the time came that they would fight Haven on the way to the BBEG and could (potentially) get them to come back and regain control of themselves again. If they did come back, I would have had Haven retain the cracks but have it be like Kintsugi, where you repair broken pottery but create something new and beautiful. But alas, twas not meant to be.
