Fics We Don't Promote

We know this title is odd. Given how much we talk about encouraging the fandom to appreciate fanfic writers, saying we won't promote certain fics may not make sense. But bear with us. This is important.

Fanfiction is a great form to express passion for our beloved characters and stories. As an entertaining piece we have free access to, it carries ideas, beliefs, and emotions of its creators. And this is where things get complicated.

Here's a list of topics included in fics that we won't post:

Racism/Xenophobia

Referring to any characters using racial and ethnic slurs is against our rules for promoting fanfiction, and the submission will be ignored. If we receive any complaints from fics already reblogged, we remove the content from our directory. Depending on the content, we may report the post to Tumblr Support.

Sexism/Mysoginy

Referring to female characters (cis or transgender) using pejorative terms is against our rules for promoting fanfiction and the submission will be promptly ignored. Depending on the content, we may report the post to Tumblr Support. For more information, I recommend the following links:

Body shaming/Disability

Referring to characters with any type of physical or mental condition using pejorative terms or judging characters by their physical appearance is against our rules for promoting fanfiction and the submission will be promptly ignored. Depending on the content, we may report the post to Tumblr Support.

What is body shaming

Sexualization of minor characters

All pieces rated for mature readers involving characters from High School Story series, It Lives In The Woods, My First Two Loves, or any other underage characters from other books will be analyzed. If the content sexualizes any underage characters, the creator will be reported to Tumblr support.

Incest

Works involving romantic and/or sexual interactions between family members are forbidden. But the catch is: does it mean family members are related by blood or does it include people related by marriage? 

It depends. Even though the blood relation doesn't exist, the concept of the family goes beyond blood ties. A fanwork in which a character described as a parent figure to another one makes sexual advances toward them can also be claimed as incest. Two characters raised together as siblings who start dating also qualifies as incest. Therefore, if we find out anyone is writing a piece involving incestuous relationships, the piece will be removed from our directory and the creator will be reported to Tumblr Support.

If anyone reads a story that they believe falls into any of the above categories, please let us know the fic and why you believe it meets one of the above categories, and we will review the fic.

Personal Offense

If a fic mocks any real person, we will remove it. If anyone was personally offended, we will advise them to report the user to Tumblr Support.

Plagiarism

Plagiarized fanfiction is a tricky thing. It goes without saying that no one should not post a fanwork written by someone else as their own. If you feel someone has posted a work that is plagiarized by another writer, we advise you to gather evidence (drafts, post dates, conversations with friends, and or the person plagiarizing your work) before contacting us. 

We also need to remind writers that proving intellectual property theft in fanfiction isn’t easy. Although we are not allowed to profit off of fanfiction works, Pixelberry has legal rights over Choices books. Many people will have the same headcanons for characters, relationships, and stories, this is not necessarily plagiarism. So we might require more evidence of plagiarism if a work is not obviously copied and pasted from a previously posted work.

If we reblog a story that you believe has been plagiarized from someone else, please let us know. Provide links to the fic in question and the original fic.

Profiting From Fanfiction

Profiting from fanfiction is illegal in all but very rare circumstances. It also has the potential to endanger the ability of other writers to create and share their works of fanfiction. If a suit is brought forth by Pixelberry, all writers are subject to cease and desist orders. Therefore we do not encourage this practice. Fics that have links for tipping on Tumblr or other sites will not be reblogged, nor shared on any CFWC listings.

If you see a fic that has a monetary suggestion/request promoted on our blog, please let us know.

Weekly Events

Fics of The Week:

Submit all the fics you post during a week.

How: Mention @choicesficwriterscreations , use the tags #choices fic writers creations for any posts #fics of the week and/or send a message with the URL to your fics to @jerzwriter.

When: Sunday 12am - Saturday 11:59pm [UTC -03:00 (Atlantic Time, Brasilia, Greenland)]

Sunday Six:

Share snippets with approximately six words/sentences/paragraphs of your unfinished works .

When: Saturday - Sunday 10pm [UTC -03:00 (Atlantic Time, Brasilia, Greenland)]

How: Mention @choicesficwriterscreations using the tags #choices fic writers creations #cfwc sunday six or send a message with the URL to your fics to @lucy268-mod

Observations:

You can send your WIPs anytime to us, but they'll only be reblogged on Sundays.

We only include WIPs which the original post by the writer. If your WIP is included in reblog of someone else's, we advise you to make a new post;

Always add basic information of your WIPs in the posts (book, pairings/characters, rating if it includes any adult content)

Throwback Fics

Reblog one of your old fics, specially the ones with lower notes.

How: Mention @choicesficwriterscreations using the tags #choices fic writers creations #cfwc throwback fics or send a message with the URL to your fics to @lucy268-mod

When: Tuesday 10am - Thursday 06pm [UTC -03:00 (Atlantic Time, Brasilia, Greenland)]

Observations:

We only accept one fic per writer every week. If you send more than one, the others will be scheduled to be included on TBF of the following weeks;

The work has to be, at least, one month old.

Supporting Writers

Fanfic MCs and OCs

Share character profile of your main and/or original characters.

How: Mention @choicesficwriterscreations , use the tags #choices fic writers creations for any posts #cfwc mcs and ocs and/or send a message with the URL to your character’s profile to @cfwcadm.

When: Sunday 12am - Saturday 11:59pm [UTC -03:00 (Atlantic Time, Brasilia, Greenland)]

Meet The Writer

Every time the blog gets more 25 followers, a fanfic author is randomly chosen for an interview to talk about their work.

Observations:  

The writer must be following the @choicesficwriterscreations;

The writer must have joined any events of the blog (weekly or seasonal) at least once;

The writer must be active in the fandom;

The writer must follow the rules of the blog. If they were called out by the mods more than once, they’ll be deemed ineligible to the Q&A.

General Observations:

To avoid flooding the dashboard, any fanworks (including WIPs) over 500 words without keep reading will added to a new post with just the basic information and a link to the story;

Avoid mentioning the blog if your post isn't a fanfiction. We don't reblog masterlists and headcanons. Moodboards, edits, fanart, fictional characters' fake messages and social media screenshots will only appear in the blog if included in fanfic;

If you're not sure your work was reblogged, send us a message. Avoid mentioning us in your fic twice;

Admin and mod accounts only exist so writers/readers can contact us through message. Don't mention us in your posts;

Observe and respect the deadline of each weekly event. We get it if you only could post one hour after the event ended. But remember we have lives outside Tumblr. We can't stay up until 2 AM reblogging posts;

Any submissions without basic information (book, characters/relationships, rating and warnings) of the fanfic will be ignored;

Always tag your posts appropriately;

Notify the mods in case you change your url;

Fics we don't promote.

Normally we don't make a big deal out of this, but since this is happening way too often and some of you clearly have been ignoring the rules of this blog, here's a new one: anyone who mentions @choicesficwriterscreations more than once on their posts or mention @mod-queen and @cfwcadm will have their submission ignored.
