CFWC's Position on AI Created Works

CFWC exists to support and encourage the many talented writers and artists in the Pixelberry Choices fandom, and we are not about to support something that works directly against their interests.

Whether utilizing a blank canvas or a blank page, our fandom creators are bringing their visions to life, and when they do, art is created. Their works are born from a love of their characters and the desire to depict a story that is aching to be told. It is perfected through time, practice, and commitment to their craft. That is art.

AI-generated works are not art. It is our opinion that this new, unregulated technology is based on theft and undermines the work and contributions of true artists. The recent WGA and ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes vividly illustrate how AI is hurting creatives and negatively impacting their ability to earn a living. That's just a fact, and because of this...

CFWC will not share or promote AI creations of any type on our blog.

AI artwork will not be shared in any form. This includes artwork in headers, within fiction, as well as standalone art.

Any fics marked as or discovered to be AI generated will be rejected.

If we find out a submitted work was AI-generated after the fact, it will be removed, and we reserve the right to refuse to promote the creator again in the future.

Creators who utilize AI will not be eligible for Creator of the Month or MC of the Month.

We understand others have different opinions on this topic, but our opinion is firm, and our decision is final.

I am sorry to bother you on your personal blog, but CFWC does not allow anon asks.

Is there a reason that you don't share all Choices creators work on your blog? I notice some of my favorite creators aren't featured. I am curious to know why.

No worries about reaching out here. I'm happy to answer.

CFWC shares Choices related fics and some other creations from all creators without bias. To ensure their work is featured, Creators must tag CFWC. Please see this post for more information. Perhaps the creators you're speaking of aren't aware of us. Please feel free to pass our information along to them.

We make an effort to check main tags for posts when we can, but we cannot do that on a consistent basis due to time restraints.

Also, some creators do not wish to have their works shared by CFWC for various reasons. While it is our goal to support all fandom creators, we don't believe it would be right to force anyone to participate.

Reminder about Rules

Hi everyone, hope you’re good and healthy!

I’m here today to remind you of a few things that are constantly happening on the blog (@choicesficwriterscreations​), and in case some people haven’t read the Rules (or don’t want to read, or are too lazy to read, whatever), I’ll remind you about it here:

Do we (@cfwc and me) have to constantly send a private message to authors to remind this? No, we don’t. Because the rules are quite clear and they're in the header of CFWC for anyone to see. So, keep that in mind and don’t complaing when your post/fanfic are ignored, ok? 

It’s okay to change URL, God knows how many times I personally wanted to change my personal blog’s url, and we (@cfwcadm and I) know it’s perfectly normal if after a while the url just doesn’t feel right anymore. But this rule is more for our readers than for the adm and mod itself, it’s a attempt to keep the blog updated and really help writers to be found. 

Just imagine the situation: a reader comes to our blog looking for a fanfic and when they click on the link on our list the link does not lead them to the fanfic they were looking for. Frustating, right? 

So help us to help you. Help us to keep the blog updated, so we can help your work to be found.

Ah, one last thing: in order to keep the blog updated, if you delete your blog the post/link for your fanfic, on our blog is going to be deleted as well, ok?

A writer's blank page is akin to an artist's blank canvas, and when they bring their visions to life, art is created.

Their works are born from a love of their characters and the desire to depict a story that is aching to be told. It is perfected through time, practice, and commitment to their craft. A story that takes a reader fifteen minutes to read or an artistic rendition that the viewer appreciates for a few moments likely took its creator hours upon hours to create.

AI-generated works are not original, and they only exist by stealing from others, most of the time without their consent. It is our opinion that this new and unregulated field is based on theft and undermines the work of true artists. We need to look no further than the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes to understand the results AI is having on creatives and their ability to earn a living. Because of this...

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Fiction and Art Submission Guidelines

CFWC is here to support creators and connect fandom members. We want to make sharing your creations here as simple as possible, but we need your assistance. We recommend that creators include the following items in their posts. It is the creator's responsibility to provide these details.

If information is missing, we will work with what is provided. But if the required information is not present, we cannot reblog.

FIRST: PLEASE READ OUR POSITION ON AI-CREATED WORKS.

FIC/ART MUST INCLUDE:

1. Pixelberry Choices Story (Required) 2. Characters and/or pairing (Required)

Main Characters or Pairing: the main person or pairing fic is about. > Use "x" for romantic pairings (John x Mary) > Use "&" for platonic pairings (John & Mary) > F!MC or F!OC for Female / M!MC or M!OC for Male / NB!MC or NB!OC for Non-Binary. If not indicated, we will list as MC or OC only. NOTE: Some prefer gender coding, but CFWC does not require it. Tag your characters as you wish; we respect your choices.

3. A "Read More" page break (Required) Posts that exceed 2 mobile screen lengths will not be reblogged. Please use a "Read More" page break for longer posts. If you need instructions on how to add a page break, please see here. We will reach out to creators to request this be added one time only. After that, the creation will be shared via a link on our weekly lists but will not be reblogged.

FIC/ART SHOULD INCLUDE:

Ratings/Warnings: We strongly suggest you provide a rating for your fic. Rating guidelines can be found below the break. NOTE: If this information is not provided, we will still reblog the fic, and it will be up to the reader to determine whether to read the work or contact the creator for more information. In the case of 18+ Material, if we are notified that a fic with mature or adult content is posted without a rating, we reserve the right to take our reblog down.

RATINGS:

This is the preferred rating system

G: General – appropriate for all audiences. T:  Teen – appropriate for teens and older adults. M: Mature Content – content contains topics that are not explicit but have themes that are more appropriate for adult audiences.  These are considered appropriate for ages 18+ only.  These fics should also contain trigger warnings. E: Explicit – content contains explicit sexual, violent, or other content.  They are only appropriate for ages 18+.  These fics should also contain trigger warnings.

WARNINGS:

If your fic contains topics that could be troubling to others, please include warnings.  These may include but are not limited to death, major illness, mental health issues, suicide, sexual harassment/abuse, violence, drug/alcohol use, homophobia*, racism*, sexism*, etc.

*PLEASE NOTE: These triggers will apply if these topics are addressed in the fic.  We will not promote fics that endorse any of these things.  We cannot read every fic, but if we are made aware of any fics that do, we will remove them, contact the author and Tumblr if warranted.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Triggers are very specific things, and no one can be expected to know everything that might trigger someone else. If you’re not sure if you can read something, reach out to the creator directly to ask further questions.

How We Pick the Writer/MC of the Month and Contest Winners

WOTM & MCOTM:

To ensure the Writer of the Month (WotM) and MC / OC of the Month are selected from active fandom creators, we maintain a list of writers who have been active in our fandom during the last six months. These writers' names are entered on the Wheel of Names, and they are selected at random.

FOR CONTESTS:

Criteria and eligibility for each contest are explained at the beginning of the event. (For example, the criteria for our Please Be Prompt event can be found here.)

In general, CFWC Mods and creators who have won a prize within the past 6 months are not eligible to win, and their names will not appear on the Wheel of Names at the time of selection. (This does not include WotM or MC-OC of the Month winners. They will be eligible.)

A Tiny But Relevant Change

Hi there! Have you noticed any changes on Fics of The Week list? (No, we’re not talking about @cfwcadm​‘s skills to create banners 😅)

In case you haven’t noticed anything different, here it is:

From now on, we’re adding this little warning in every fanwork rated as mature, explicit or that contains any triggering subjects. With this tiny change, we can help our followers to identify the target audience of stories before opening the links. 

We’re adding the adult content warning to older posts too, so if you were here before we estabilished the basic info of the blog, we’re probably going to send you a message in case any information is missing.
