Caged Canary
@bcggars for Medic
【🔧】— It was rare for the Engineer to approach the infirmary unless she was injured or that one time when she was piss drunk and wanted part of her arm chopped off to replace it with a prosthetic. So when an uninjured, sober Danielle poked her head in, it was anyone’s guess what she came in for.
“Doc, hey,” she greeted. “Lissen, yer good with birds, right?” The question was easily answered when a dove swooped by and divebombed the intruder, bapping her on the helmet, to which the engineer barely registered. It was an obvious question that someone in a medical profession would at least have some passing knowledge on avian health if they were going to own a whole flock of the animals.
The Engineer had her hands cusped loosely into a ball together, like she had something small and delicate between them. Approaching her co-worker, she slowly opened her hands up to reveal a small, yellow mess of feathers. Upon further examination, the mess of feathers was actually a bird, a canary, to be exact; and it didn’t look very healthy.
“Saw th’ lil’ guy hit one of th’ windows. Don’t think these kinda birds are native ‘round here, so I think it might be someone’s escaped pet... anything you can do fer it?”
