Your fingers gripped at the gear on the side of the telescope, decreasing the distance of spatial view it seemed you were always limited to. The eye that remained open and peering through the thick lens roamed around, fingers curling into your palms as a luminescent ray whipped through your line of sight, fading away as quickly as it appeared. “Hey!” you snapped around, attention lingering on your boyfriend with wide eyes and a grin tugging at the corners of your lips.
“You saw that right?” You raised an arm, pointing toward the gigantic expanse of seemingly nothingness, tracing the trail that the flash previously followed.
“How could I not? You specifically told me not to look away,” Jihoon snarked, stretching his arms into a backward lean, lips curling at the excitement plastered across your expression.
“Wasn’t it just beautiful, Jihoon?” A breath flew from your lungs, shoulders dropping as you returned your gaze to the sky, fixating on the bright sphere staring back at you.
“Breathtakingly,” he breathed, admiring the reflection of each star in the breadth of your eyes, lauding at the shimmer that Luna’s light graced upon your skin and the complacent expression adorning itself over you.
Jutting out your lower lip, you swiftly dropped down onto the grass-stained blanket beside Jihoon, head taking refuge on his ever-so-welcoming shoulder while an arm draped itself around your torso simultaneously. Fingers lacing with those of Jihoon’s other hand, eyes scanning from the easily spotted constellations like the dippers and Orion to your joined hands, you released a sigh.
“Hm? What’s wrong?” the male to your side craned his neck forward, brow raised and tongue perched between teeth.
“Just,” your teeth grazed over your lower lip and lifting your head, you peered at your boyfriend. “What if there are other people out there? You think they know about us, even though we don’t about them?”
“I think that’s more up to you to consider: to decide whether or not you believe there are or not.”
“Well, what do you think?” you searched his face for any detection of an answer, leaning closer as his lips parted from one another.
Jihoon retracted his arm from you and reached out, extending his palm and waving his limb in the air, across the width of the sky before him. “There’s so much room out there, [Y/N], how can there not be something, right?”
His lips pursed, his gaze not retracting for a moment from the sparkling whites of the stars, “It’s… an odd concept to think about, really… You always hear people say we’re the inferior race, but I think there’s something much more advanced than us out there, somewhere.”
A smile graced your lips, Jihoon’s always logical way of thinking showing through his scientific response to your fun question. You adored it, the way his lips scrunched into a pout as he imagined what this other species would look like, would act like.
“What are you picturing in there, Jihoon,” you cooed, tapping the tip of your finger against his temple and earning a soft, breathy chuckle.
“What do you think they’d look like?” He turned his head toward you, avoiding your question for the moment.
“Well,” you snuggled your body against his as the night winds flowed across you. “Sometimes I imagine that there’s some sort of parallel to us, ya’ know? Maybe, far out there, there’s another pair of us; another Jihoon, another [Y/N]...” Looking toward your boyfriend, a flush spread across your cheeks at his enthralled smile which only lit up as he noted your embarrassment.
“I’m sure that’s quite possible.”
“You think the other us could meet each other like this too?”
“I think yes,” Jihoon’s smile was soft, as was the look he gave you; soft and filled with more love than he’s ever shown anyone. “The reason, though, is because… No matter what universe, or how different they are to the us here, we were made for each other.” You felt the stinging prick of tears in your eyes as he continued, your fingers wrapping around the hands he’d placed on both of your cheeks. “No matter how many versions of me there are, I think the only way I could ever find happiness is if I keep finding you, in each and every parallel universe.”
His lips fluttered over yours with the delicately light touch of a feather, “Because I love you more than anything in any universe.”
