Mmm... anyone for a cup of hot chaff tea? Oh, just me? Ok. You can learn a lot about coffee by just indulging in your own curiosity. What does chaff contribute to taste in coffee? Anything? It’s easy enough to find out! ————————— My experience is that indeed chaff varies depending on the type of coffee. Today I tried steeping chaff from a washed and natural coffee. The aromatics after adding hot water were so different. The natural had a clear honey-butter sweetness. But that didn’t come through so much tasting it. Much like the parchment it has a grain-wood flavor blend. You really taste the cellulose material that constitutes it, and a slight malt note. Personally I think the flavor in roasted coffee overwhelms any residual chaff taste to the point it can’t be discerned. But it is possible that the slightly pasty and thick body of a chaff tea is noted in the cup.
