Un vagabond est engagé comme vendeur de journaux à la gare du Caire, ce qui suit va vous étonner...

Pourquoi c’est un bon film ? Parce qu’il montre l’Egypte autrement que Hollywood le fait avec la seule Cléopâtre, et parce qu’on est projeté dans un monde particulier fait de corruption, de violence sociale et physique.

Malgré tout le cynisme, et même si tout espoir de fuite ou de réussite des personnages est à chaque fois réduit à néant, Youssef Chahine en fait un film relativement joyeux, à l’intérieur duquel il s’amuse lui-même, ponctué de danse et de chansons.

Une copie dvd du film a été réalisée en Suisse.
