Any Billford fics (or anything Gravity Falls) you think deserve more attention?

I went through my bookmarks and tried to find fics with around 1k hits! I was so surprised cuz in my mind these are famous(theyre in my brain permanently).

Love potions and silly goofy vivisection. Need I say more? Its also extremely funny and both Ford and Bill are hilariously in-character (and in-denial). The gags are great. There, I said more.

Lacrimosa by RiceyCakes(ongoing)

Its currently got one chapter out but its already sooo well written. Fords characterization and inner monologue feels incredibly authentic it makes me insane. GIVE THE AUTHOR LOVE!!!

MY HEADCANONS ON STANFORD’s 12 PhDs (one for each finger…)

Disclaimer! I am not in STEM so my explanations/reasoning for each of these might be (very) surface level but I did enjoy reading through a lot of wikipedia pages and University websites to learn more about these areas of study! (long post warning)

here we go!!

Applied Mathematics

Obviously he needs this one as a foundational Phd as he uses mathematics in his engineering and inventing.

Pure Mathematics

Pure mathematics is the study of math that isn't directly driven by a need of real life, but for the love of the game. “The appeal is attributed to the intellectual challenge and aesthetic beauty of working out the logical consequences of basic principles”(Wikipedia). I like the idea that Ford loves math so much that he got another Phd studying the strange and beautiful complexities of it. Plus it's only hypothetical math until the world finds a use for it. Ford is gonna be the guy to find a use for it. Includes very thematically relevant topics of study such as geometry/topology and has been applicable to cryptography!

Archaeology 

Study of ancient human culture and civilization. Ford would enjoy learning about ancient civilizations and their customs, their myths and most importantly their monsters! I think there would be a lot to be studied about how real their mythical monsters are/what they're based on. Kind of like an extension of his interest in cryptids.

Genetics

Obvious one! He has a genetic defect, and a lot of anomalies are caused by genetics being freaky. of course he wanted to learn all there is to know about it and study it deeper(and maybe in a round-a-bout way understand himself a little bit more as well)

Zoology and Entomology

This guy loves animals for their eccentricities and their uniqueness, especially bugs, but I feel like in a purely scientific sense, he's not the kind of guy to do well as a zookeeper because he's not super hands on and very self focused. Not a good caretaker for animals. Don't give this guy a pet. His favorite specimens are pinned or preserved in jars instead.

Paleontology

Dinosaurs. Enough said.

Physics is Fords forte in my opinion so he got a good amount of his PhDs in that area!

Theoretical Physics

“Theoretical physics is a branch of physics that employs mathematical models and abstractions of physical objects and systems to rationalize, explain, and predict natural phenomena.”(Wikipedia) This one felt very much like what Ford was trying to do researching gravity falls. There's gotta be an equation that explains all the weirdness!!!

Thermodynamics

He made a perpetual motion machine when he was 17(a hypothetical device which breaks the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics). He would've had to rewrite the textbook after that.

Quantum Physics

I dont get it but its is very wibbly wobbly mind breaking confusing stuff. Ford would love it. 

Astrophysics/Astronomy

I think Ford must've considered being an astronaut at some point,(little did he know he was gonna be so much more than that). But he settled for studying celestial bodies and stars and constellations and strange new worlds. AKA he watched star trek at an impressionable age.

FINALLY…

Linguistics

Before the portal, the languages we know Ford knew(aside from english) were latin and folk german, so I headcanon languages were one of his fields of study, and wouldn't be surprised if he studied them in college. (It could also be another outlet for his interest in secret codes and ciphers) BUT THEN after the portal years, he says he knows 13 languages and this is WITH the interdimensional translator. He could've just NOT but hes extra and his pride got in the way. "Im gonna do this the hard way just to prove that I can" moment. And then did that 10+ times over. I think a background in linguistics would help him understand the interdimensional languages in terms of structure enough to actually attempt to learn them from scratch. 

Extracurricular and more

Art- my headcanon is Ford is a purely self taught artist, his draftsmanship is very helpful when making his own diagrams and illustrations for his journal, but mainly he is an artist for himself, not too interested in studying fine art or illustration. I think it could be cool if he did some anatomical illustration on the side for extra cash when he first started his study of gravity falls(pre-Bill) and then kinda got blacklisted cuz he was using freaky gravity falls animals and plants as reference lmao. Lecturing- In some cases PhD students can step in for a prof who is unavailable to teach, and I'm guessing at Backupsmore that was often. The faculty were always trying to get him to do lectures but Ford doesn't really like wasting time explaining things(and when he does, it's explained horribly. All in all he's a terrible teacher and would've been a bad mentor for Dipper LOL).  Shakespeare Society- he's a DRAMA QUEEN. He dabbled in Shakespeare and other classic plays. I’m talking Shakespeare in the Park Performances and lots of for-fun analysis with other literature nerds. (Imagine fiddleford having to suffer through 4 hour performance of Hamlet to support Ford’s hobby LOL) Anyway, It's where he gets his flair for the dramatic("till the end of time" "In the dark weird road I travel, I’m afraid you can’t follow")

AND THATS ALL I GOT(for now). None of this is in any way realistic but Ford is stupidly overcompetent so who knows hehe thats why I like him. Also I clearly think about him too much. Thank you and everyone so much for asking and sorry for the word vomit <333

random ask to get to know you better!

Hmm tell us 🤔 how did you get into the gf fandom, what is the meaning behind your username, and what's a miscellaneous fun fact about yourself?

YAY!!!!! ASK!!!!

1. I was a big gf fan when I was a kid(I was the same age as dip and mabel when I watched it for first time) but I didnt know how to use the internet so id just look at fanart on Google images and draw them in my sketchbook(dipifica mainly lol). But what got me back into it was TBOB (obv). The concept of billford was so ridiculous it made me insanely happy. And then you start thinking and go WAIT. THIS IS PEAK. THIS IS MEANINGFUL. THIS IS IMPORTANT. I actually was holding off from getting into tbob all last year because I knew id be insane about it, and I had to focus on school...(I WAS RIGHT)

2. Meaning behind my username is commie->communist and chair-> ummmm I picked this nickname when I was like 15 I dont remember why I chose it LOL. I am chair now. Chair as in 🪑.

3. Fun fact: um um um um I cant think of a fun fact so ill just tell you my favorite animal of all time. MAGNAPINNA SQUID. Followed closely by the mola mola and the humble crow.
