Challenge 137: Magic Forest: Deer Embroiderer with a Magic Wand!

I’m a sucker for IG drawing prompts/ challenges, so when Jordan announced our theme I was beyond thrilled!!

Unfortunately, it’s the ones you love that end up being a bit difficult XP This piece fought me every inch of the way and if I was given another shot at it I’d go in a completely different direction. But it was a great learning experience, and I definitely know things to avoid in the future ;D

Challenge 137: Magic Forest: Chipmunk Potions Master with Autumn Lantern This was a really fun way to get me out of my comfort zone, and I feel like it ended up paying off nicely! Only thing is that it’s pretty challenging to make a clear difference between squirrels and chipmunks in a stylized illustration, if they aren’t standing right next to each other for comparison. It would probably be more obvious if this lil guy wasn’t wearing his potion master robes, but I guess that’s just the sacrifice we have to make for style ;P Caitlin

Challenge 137: Magic Forest: Hedgehog Wizard with a Little Backpack

Hedgehogs are super cute, so it was fun looking up reference for this! This magical critter is heading back to his home in the woods after an afternoon of mushroom gathering, for potions and for supper.

Challenge 137: Magic Forest: The wizard and his companion

I have a tremendous amount going on around me lately. 

Throughout the busyness, I came up with a thumbnail along with a basic idea that I liked and went with it. Sadly, to my disservice, with everything I had going on I was unable to make anything in time for our group critique. With that happening I spent a little more time on my final sketch before moving onto the final. And I am glad I did.

This was an awesome piece to work on. I typically favor having some confinement within my work so that I have to make something with very specific boundaries and I like to think this piece shows.

Challenge 137 : Magical Forest : Sable Traveler with a Magic Wand

It’s always such excitement when doing challenges. They allow your imagination to expand and push what you can create. This challenge was no different, including learning of a new animal to me the "sable," such a cute creature. With this challenge and Halloween around the corner, I just had to send this little sable on a witchy/ wizardry ride with his new fully charger magic wand app.

I had so much fun with this challenge! I realized I’m much more comfortable drawing human figures than animals, so getting this bear to feel just right was a bit of a struggle for me, but I had a such a fun time bringing this to life!

Challenge 137: Magic Forest: Embroiderer Fox with a Small Backpack


I haven’t done a character design in a while so this challenge was too fun for me!! I hope to turn this little guy into an enamel pin that will be available in my Etsy shop! (link below). I hope you all enjoy this little fluff of positivity as much as I did creating him!

Challenge 137: Magic Forest: Cat Dreamer in a Soft Sweater

Here we have a very fluffy cat in a very soft sweater comfortably sleeping on a leaf and dreaming of fish.

I think I spent longer trying to figure out how to draw four fish with one line than I did painting the entire thing. This was definitely an interesting challenge and I think I have gotten a very cozy autumn illustration out of it.
