I was honored to help organize this dance in contemporary Chamorro dance at UOG. We thought only a few students would show up but so far the response has been incredible and the class has already started meeting. Biba Chamorro! Biba Chamorro Studies!

FLORA BAZA QUAN. digital. 2013 hahhaa i'm a shite graphic designer, and i know it. the only reason i'm posting this is because i felt like it wasn't getting any love, and i'm certain at least one of my 5 followers would "heart" it! (Alina, c'mon) I'm made a handful of "flyers" while on Guam. At the start, i was dreading it, but I've started to own it. Trying to be more illustrative, less sterile. Sometime i'm met with resistance. But the way i see it, these flyers are ads, and ads need to draw attention. CHAMORRO PROCLAMATION FLYER. 2013. digital. original concept 2011 "Fortune Cookie" For anyone keeping track, 2 years ago I posted an illustration called "Fortune Cookie" that I made for a school assignment. This time around, I was asked to provide artwork to be used on a flyer for the Chamorro Studies Program. I decided to remix the old illustration. I swapped the casual restaurant goer trying a new dish, with the Governor of Guam, Eddie Calvo signing a proclamation. I changed the tablecloth/bowl/spoon into a desk/paper/pen. In the original piece: "i tried to illustrate the fortune i got after eating Chinese food. It read: “You will enjoy something different this weekend”. I wanted to illustration someone experiencing a new food. He’s eating a spoonful of something that looks kind of gross, but once he tastes it, this beautiful eruption of color and wonder blows out of it. It was hard to illustrate what taste would look like, but this is what i came up with."

For the new version, the governor is signing a proclamation endorsing the new Chamorro Studies Program at UOG. When the pen touches the paper, magic happens :) ------------------------------------------------------------ "At a party last New Years eve somewhere downtown. CHAMORRO STUDIES ARTWORK. 2013. digital, collage, pen...

This is some artwork i designed for the Chamorro Studies Department at UOG. It's not my own project :(  but I still try to do a good job :) I mixed up a bunch of styles to keep the picture alive and fun: drew little cartoons, overlayed different textures, good stuff. I did get some resistance towards some of the creative decisions I made, but thanks to Nepotism and my filibustering skills, I didn't have to change much. I did find it weird that Father Duenas and Joseph Gordon Levitt are identical twins. I merged their faces to create this softened old photograph look. Boo Yah! ----------------------------------------- "I wish I could go back to college. Life was so simple back then. What would I give to go back and live in a dorm with a meal plan again! I wish I could go back to college. In college you know who you are. You sit in the quad, and think, "Oh my God! I am totally gonna go far!" How do I go back to college? I don't know who I am anymore! I wanna go back to my room and find a message in dry-erase pen on the door! Ohhh... I wish I could just drop a class... Or get into a play... Or change my major... Or fuck my T.A. I need an academic advisor to point the way! We could be... Sitting in the computer lab, 4 A.M. before the final paper is due, Cursing the world 'cause I didn't start sooner, And seeing the rest of the class there, too! I wish I could go back to college! How do I go back to college?! I wish I had taken more pictures. But if I were to go back to college, Think what a loser I'd be- I'd walk through the quad, And think "Oh my God..." These kids are so much younger than me."
