hehehe i meant that ask for the le toi du moi au i shouldve been more specific! haha...but.. the answer to what elu are doing in the chamonix au was beautiful nonetheless... my heart ached!!! youre such a good writer!!
Hello again, Anon! Thanks again for this ask (and the compliment!!). Here’s Part 2.
do u think love can last forever?
For Elu? Yes. In elk universum! We all want our OTPs to be eternal. Even though—looking back at my own crushes and teenaged immaturity—the idea of a high school boyfriend being The One kind of makes me cringe. Just because there’s so much more growing to do, and being in a relationship isn’t the be all, end all when you’re young—imo, you can and should try to experience things solo! (That said, this is kind of the essential tension of my current WIP, where one character is in denial about his coup de foudre; he thinks he was too young when he met The One, so he never seriously pursued the relationship, and now he’s full of regret because he thinks the moment has passed.)
To copy-paste from my previous reply—
I do think love lasts forever. But the shape of it can change. As @xiangyu likes to say, paraphrasing Dan Savage*, the marker of a successful relationship is not necessarily longevity. People evolve. Relationships end, and that’s not always a tragic thing...
*See also Dan Savage’s “The Price of Admission”: People, when they’re young, have this idea…“There’s someone out there who’s perfect for me”…“The one.” “The one” does not fucking exist. “The one” is a lie. But the beautiful part of the lie is that it’s a lie you can tell yourself. Any long-term relationship that’s successful is really a myth that two people create together.
I think Elu will be extra successful at creating that myth. Especially in the Chamonix universe, as their experience on the mountain binds them together, and they’ve had ten years to grow up and become their own separate people. They’ve had a chance to live apart and build up their own lives and interests and friend groups, which I hope makes their decision to be together seem all the more clear-eyed and intentional. (Even if Lucas was freaking out about it most of the time, lol.)
