Emma's limbs throbbed and ache as she avoided the gaze of one of her captors as he suddenly entered the tiny room, carelessly tossing in her measly food before slamming the door shut. At the sight she couldn't help tearing up, tears trickling down her cheeks in misery. She would never go out again and be content with loneliness if it meant she could get out.
How was she supposed to eat if he didn't bother to untie her wrists? At least she hoped Riza would be proud of her putting up a fight at first..if she even noticed Emma was gone...
Something gleamed in the corner of her eye from the light under the door as she shuffled over weakly. Her necklace...?
Use what you have Emma She couldn't remember right now if her auntie ever said that....her head felt too fuzzy. Desperately she concentrated the spark of alchemy buzzing in her cell. Glancing back she hadn't transmuted the wall into another element. A helpless sob left her mouth as she brought her hands to hit the wall but the rope around her wrists made a ripping sortve sound as it made contact. Curious she did it slower now feeling a sharp edge protruding out. Again and again faster and faster she repeated the motion rubbing the middle of the rope and with a final snap her wrists were free! Heart pounding she scrambled up grasping at the handle not even considering if it was locked. When her clammy scratched hands finally managed to wrench the heavy door open, she didn't register the shouts loudly echoing in the building. @changing-over-time
How could she have been so stupid? Perhaps it had been from dealing with the Elric brothers. They weren't too much older than Emma, and they could fend for themselves while carrying out work for the military. It still stunned her that Edward was twelve when he became a state alchemist. Twelve. So maybe she wasn't.. too stupid for believing it was normal to leave a nine year old at home while she was at work since the kind woman next door was unavailable to take Emma in. But that brought a new wave of thoughts and emotions. Emma had betrayed her trust. Riza had asked her niece to keep inside the apartment and keep the door locked. She had made sure she had prepared her breakfast and lunch; all she had to do was warm it up. So why had Emma left when she was given strict instructions not to? There no point in fretting over it now. She had one thing to focus on and that was getting Emma back.
Getting home to be greeted only by Hayate had been unnerving, but searching the rooms to find Emma not there made her blood run cold. And when she received the frantic call from Muatang telling her headquarters had received a call from a group of terrorist demanding ransom for the safe return of Lieutenant Hawkeye's niece, just as she was about to call him to tell him Emma was missing, it made her sick. So it was no surprise when the drop was arranged that Riza insisted she be there. Emma needed her, and Riza wasn't going fail her. Which is why, without a second thought, the Lieutenant entered the building despite the orders from behind her pleading her to stay put. She couldn't wait. Not when the only family she had left was in there.
Pistol drawn she makes her way through, disabling any terrorist she comes upon, her stoic, often unreadable, nature replaced with anger but also determination. She'd demand Emma's location before pushing on and soon enough, she was eventually met with chaos. They knew the danger they were in now, the Hawk's Eye had arrived and had already disabled a decent group of their comrads. And she wasn't finished. Gunfire erupted in the halls, a desperate attempt to stop the blonde from progressing but they were no match to her skill. Preservering through this wave she pressed on, bathing ignoring the yelling and screaming but pinpointing where it sounded like they were coming from. Rounding a corner she was caught by surprise when a door flew open before her, gasping out in surprise. But the sight before her was everything she wanted right now. "Emma! Oh, thank god." She rushed over, immediately dropping to her knees to pull her against her chest, holding her so tightly the young girl could likely feel her heart pounding. "Emma.. Emma, look at me, are you okay..? Did they hurt you?"
