First of all, Happy Holidays to you all.
Whether you celebrate any festivities or not, we wish you a good end of the year and hope you can have an amazing 2018.
Unfortunately, even in times like these, we have to take a minute and talk about something serious.
In the last few weeks, the bookshelf has gained a lot of popularity and we are all very thankful for that. With new followers came new messages and we think it’s time to talk about some of them.
You might have seen an answer to an ask a few days ago, asking for a specific sexual dynamic for a specific character.
Even though we reasoned that we would not be able to deliver recommendations for this criteria, another person has asked for our help:
So we thought we had to make something clear:
What you are asking for is something that is clearly contained in our red flags.
You can read all of them over here under Q06.
These red flags are there for a reason. We didn’t make them to annoy you guys or to appear edgy but because we genuinely DO NOT WANT to recommend stuff containing them.
Romanticized non-con/rape.
We don’t want sexual abuse in our recommendations unless it is used to picture how horrible and wrong it is.
Sexualising children is not ok. Stop it.
We do not want to recommend stories with incestuous relationships.
Stereotypical use and depiction of top/bottom dynamics.
This is the red flag that has been coming up the most in recent messages. Gay people are real people. They’re not here to fulfill your sexual fantasies and fanfiction authors aren’t either. We do not wish to apply heteronormative stereotypes on gay couples and we don’t want to promote unhealthy kinks.
To say certain fics are “unacceptable” because a certain character is topping/bottoming is straight up homophobic.
If you want to read more about this issue, @exoafflatus made a post that you can read here.
None of these red flags are negotiable. We don’t feel comfortable with them and all we ask you is to respect that. If you want to talk about these issues, feel free to reach out to Admin J here.
Thank you so much for your attention.
tldr: Please respect our red flags and stop asking for stuff we are clearly uncomfortable with.
