Happy Mother’s Day! Could I request a Winterwitch Next Gen AU, Bucky and the kids surprising Wanda for Mother’s Day? Thank you! 😀
One of his favorite things, ever, is the way that Wanda almost always reaches for him when he gets out of their bed in the morning.
She doesn’t tend to sleep in, not by a long shot; she’s actually quite the early riser, and she doesn’t go to bed particularly early, either, so he’s not sure when the hell she’s getting enough sleep these days to still be as patient and bright and cheerful as her usual self. But, anyway. She hardly ever sleeps in, he just happens to up before on most days, and whenever he gets out of bed, Wanda will let out this cute little huff and grab onto his hand or his shirt. Half the time he’s not even sure if she knows she does it, if she’s even awake enough to be aware, but he still loves it.
Last night, though, Wanda and the girls got all dolled up and went out to dinner and to have a few drinks, which has basically become a tradition of theirs the night before Mother’s Day since today will be all about spending it with the kids. Wanda doesn’t ever get sloppy drunk - none of them do - but drinking always makes her tired, so he isn’t even surprised when she barely stirs as he’s getting up.
The twins are still asleep, but Stephanie is awake, reading one of her children’s books to the dozens of stuffed animals on the bed with her, and her face totally lights up when she sees him. Fuck, he’ll never get tired of that, just like he’ll never get tired of the way she always crawls out of her covers and jumps up into his arms. She’s a little bigger and a little heavier now - and no, he doesn’t want to think about how she seems to grow more and more into her own little person every single day - but he hopes she’ll be jumping into his arms like this until he’s too old to catch her anymore.
“Good morning, baby girl,” he says into her hair, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Ready for mama’s breakfast?”
Her eyes totally light up. “Yes!” she whispers, which makes him chuckle as they leave her room. Stephanie isn’t particularly talkative, but he’d sworn her to secrecy about Wanda’s surprise, anyway, because she tells her mama everything.
He sets Steph down on one of the chairs at the kitchen table and gives her a muffin to pick at as he quickly braids her hair out of her face while he rinses off the fruit he’d bought yesterday and starts cutting everything up. Wanda doesn’t eat heavy for breakfast, so he decides to have Stephanie decorate a bowl of yogurt with fruits and granola - and it’s really, really cute, the way Stephanie’s face wrinkles in concentration as she carefully arranges the fruit on top of the Greek yogurt he’d spooned into the bowl. He thinks she’s trying to make flowers to match the poster that she and the boys (but mostly Steph) made for Wanda last night, and when he tells her that that’s a great idea, she giggles up all happily at him and stretches on her toes to kiss his cheek. Then he grabs some of the cookie cutters that Wanda bought and has Steph help him cut hearts and flower shapes out of the slices of bread so he can pop a few in the toaster.
He planned on making pancakes for him and the kids, too, except he can already hear Rome and Max over the baby monitor, so he pours orange juice into a glass and sets everything on a tray and has Steph grab their card from the dining room. It’s a good thing they just moved Rome and Max out of their cribs and into their toddler beds, too, because there’s no way he would’ve been able to juggle them and the tray. Rome is already heading right for the room, so Steph takes hold of Max’s hand and tugs him along, and Bucky just grins as he follows them down the hallway.
Wanda’s stirring awake as the three of them burst into the room with excited giggles - and honestly, Bucky wouldn’t be surprised if she already was awake and just wanted to let them wake her up, because she’s sitting up awfully fast and helping the three of them up and onto the bed so she can pull them all close in a hug.
“Happy Mother’s Day!” Stephanie exclaims, handing over the card to Rome and Max so they can present it to their mother, and Wanda presses a loud kiss onto each of their cheek’s, making them burst into a fit of giggles and they throw their tiny arms around her again.
“Thank you, my darlings,” Wanda says, lightly pinching Stephanie’s cheek before catching Bucky’s gaze over their heads. She glances at the tray in his hands and bites down on her lower lip, her eyes sparkling brighter, somehow, as she tilts her head up so he can lean in and brush his lips against hers in a kiss. “Thank you, love,” she murmurs, quickly nipping at his lower lip, and he chuckles as he softly shakes his head at her.
His teasing little witch.
