Chaodis and Emerald remained in a council room alone, and Chaodis was smiling a usual. Emerald has heeded to Hephaestus’s warning about Chaodis being the Champon of Eris, and she’s willing to follow it.
“So what is it you want to talk about?” Emerald asked.
“It’s about Camille..... I fear she’s been influenced by Eris,” Chaodis stated.
Emerald narrowed her eyes at him. “What makes you think that?”
“You think I’m lying?” Chaodis took out a bitten golden apple. “I saw her bite this apple for some reason back on the first date.”
Emerald stared at it and still wasn’t convinced her friend would be meeting with the goddess. She shook her head.
“A bitten apple doesn’t prove anything,” Emerald replied.
Chaodis place a hand on her shoulder. “I wouldn’t be lying if I said they’ve been meeting in dreams. I was there, seeing through Achilles’s eyes. You know Camille is personifying in those dreams.”
Chaodis soon thought about Emerald’s sister, Sapphire. “And do you think Camille should’ve helped you stops Rhea after that titan killed your sister?”
Emerald remember how Sapphire was crushed in the hands of the Titan Queen. And when that happened, she couldn’t think about anything but killing Rhea. She never thought about why Camille didn’t help. In fact, she had no idea what Camille was doing after Sapphire’s funeral other than staying quiet and continuing her racing career. And what was she doing in Athens, she thought.
Chaodis then brought up another piece of information. “And to think she’s chosen to lead us champions for no reason...”
“She’s my friend...” Emerald muttered.
“Is she right now, Emerald?” Chaodis takes his hand off her shoulder and circles her. “Or is she just an apathetic tomboy whose emotions and single-mindedness is just manipulated by Eris. Is that why she let Sapphire get kidnapped and allow Rhea to take her life?”
“....But Camille...” Emerald stepped away from Chaodis.
“Can I tell you a story?” He was still smiling.
Emerald was hesitant, but she nods.
“There was once an end-of-the-world story of a time where Zeus told Olympus to strip the Earth of fire, then food, then fresh water, and then light. And through years of turmoil, a human named Nikandreos rose from his destroyed city to oppose Olympus. And as he killed the Pantheon and took the artifacts, he ended up being a god himself.”
“...and what did he do with the Earth?” Emerald asked.
“No one knows,” Chaodis simply answered, “Some say he brought life back to the Earth, some say he destroyed himself and destroyed the Earth, and some say he reigned supreme as a disillusioned god more worse than Zeus.”
Chaodis soon brought up a thought. “If Camille were like Nikandreos, do you fear she will be taking away those artifacts for herself for power? That would probably be a goal she would reach for Eris -- not Hera.”
Emerald can't believe what she’s hearing. But thinking about the way Camille behaves towards others has convinced her otherwise.
“Do you think Camille is a danger?” Emerald asked.
Chaodis puts the golden apple away. “As long as your alive, she’s not. But your death is inevitable.”
“...Camille has warned me about that.” Emerald already knew that.
“But how did she know?” Chaodis questioned.
Emerald didn’t know Cassandra told Camille.
“Eris and Camille know each other too well, Emerald.” Chaodis makes her face the exit. “And as champions, we must be suspicious of that.”
“Then I need to stop her!” Emerald is now convinced.
“Not by conflicting with her,” Chaodis warned, “I say you cheat death.”
“You think I can do that?” Emerald looked at him.
Chaodis moved in close with a hand near his mouth. “Cheat death, and you’ll prove to the others that you should lead the Olympians against the titans. Do it for Sapphire.”
Emerald soon had a confident look on her face.
