My favorite characters are Lizzie, Grian, Gem, Pearl, and Allium (oc. my silly guy)

I can't exactly do favorite scenes cause I don't really have like. a fic for this. (I've been trying to write one for so long.......)

So a big part of this au is different characters identity issues. I think this theme is most clearly shown through the strawberry waffles duo (Lizzie and Grian) parallels. Summarized: Lizzie is a divine being (the Ocean Queen) forced to be mortal and is doing everything she can to return to her godhood, and Grian is a mortal forced into divinity (Watcher) and is doing everything he can to return to his humanity. This would be some great bonding and understanding between the two but instead they lowkey just kinda hate eachother. (this "lowkey kinda hate eachother" is very quickly growing into the "battle to the death" zone)

strawberry waffles duo isn't just a Grian and Lizzie thing, there's also interesting dynamics with their alternate versions of eachother.

Ariana (alternate timeline of Grian who's original timeline was destroyed by Xelqua and she ended up leaking into this one) and E2!Lizzie (supposed to be one of Afterlife Lizzie's lives but was replaced and pushed out by Enigma Lizzie) are both in places they were never originally supposed to be but have chosen to carve out a new life despite how difficult it is when they never planned for this. However they also each still harbor quite a bit of resentment for the versions of themselves that made them end up here (Xelqua and Enigma)

Xelqua (alternate timeline of Grian who never left the Watchers and went a little crazy with regret and ended up tearing apart the tapestry holding together all time and space) and Enigma (an almost parasitical soul of pure chaos that imprinted itself upon Lizzie after she made a deal with it in an attempt to regain her godhood) both view themselves as amalgations of different versions of themselves and unable to identify with any one of them. But while Enigma sees this as meaning that she is definetly and unquestionably herself because she is every single Lizzie all at once. Xelqua has a LOT of growing and character developnent to do and currently sees this as meaning he isn't himself at all and he's just an empty shell of countless different full versions of him.

The Xelqua I just talked about (alternate timeline Grian, I've been mentally nicknaming them Stardust...) is not the first Xelqua. The original of that name is Allium!! My oc!!!!

Allium, who was more often known as Xelqua as a Watcher, was a Watcher from long long long ago. They were the Watchers' favorite. Their absolute beloved. The one they adored more than anything. Alli has...... many many many issues resulting from gaining the eternal love of a group of cosmic dieties. But their main impact on the story, the main cause for Grian's horrible disconnect with himself and wgsi identity after becoming a Watcher, actually happens after they die. After the Watchers lose their favorite flock member. After they decide that they can not let that happen. After they decide they just need a new vessel for them to be reborn in. After they choose Grian as that vessel.

So. Grian is now being transferred the memories of Allium/Xelqua as the Watchers try to reshape his mind to be their old friend. They barely even see Grian anymore, they just see someone who's supposed to be Xelqua. And day by day, memory by memory, Grian begins to view himself more like that as well. It's getting harder to understand who he even is anymore.

(I also have a sub au where the Watcher's Allium revival attemot does work and we end up getting very confused Alli stuck in Grian's body while Grian"s previosu conciousness is either just. erased. or stuck in the Void)

Anyway uhhhhhhh take my possibly incomprehensible strawberry waffles duo/xelqua rambles ya idk. 👍
