She should’ve known better than to ask; she should’ve remained silent until dinner and then explain things to their parents in the simplest way possible. But her brain wouldn’t allow that, and soon the question had left her lips without any control. The next logical step would’ve been to keep her mouth shut after his answer, pretend that never happened and remain silent for the rest of the evening; but that didn’t happen either.
