Barbara was chewing on her lip so hard that it was quickly becoming swollen, as she stared down at the paper on her lap. Her results from Leslie. Green eyes darted from the diagnoses toward the affected area, and back again. It was said to be impossible. They had all said her scarring was too deep. 

Every. Single. Doctor. 

Science was what Barbara relied on. But maybe, she mused, reaching up absentmindedly to finger the ring around her neck, she needed to start to believe in something else. Of course, if someone had to defy the odds, it had to be them. I mean, he had broken down her walls, yet again, and somehow everything was going great for them. But that was all going to change.

So with a deep breath, Barbara moved her chair from her office to the living room, where Dick was. "....Dick? I have something to tell you."

Blue eyes followed Barbara as she wheeled furiously from one end of the room to the other with stacks of books and other things on her lap.

Steph didn't know if to help or just not get on the way by the way the redhead was fuming.

The bell ringed and just as Steph was dashing to answer the door, Barb interjected with a commanding tone. "Don't. It's him and he is not allowed in here."

Frozen in her spot, the blonde raised her hands in sign of peace and turned to her beloved mentor. "...Um, okay? Who is him? Because when I--"

"Babs c'mon!" It was Dick's voice that interrupted from outside. "Lemme in!"

"Oh," went Steph with a little laugh of relief, lowering her arms.

"Don't"--Barbara intervined--"let him in."

"Okaaaay. What happened?"

"Babs, I said I'm sorry! And I really am! Please, just let me in. Pleeeeaaase."

"He is not allowed in here."

Steph made her most convincing smile as she set her hands at her hips. "Oh, c'mon, Babs. Just let him in. The man lives here and it's cold outside."

"Babs, please, it's cold!"

"Ya see."

And they definitely saw. Barbara turned to her screens to revealed the images the front door camera was capturing. Dick was outside in the snow, holding a boquet--that was probably frozen by now--wearing a thin jacket and jeans wet up to his knees.

"Oh, Babs. Look at him. He looks miserable. Just let him in." That provoked the Oracle-side-eye-patented-stare. "At least to change? He might get sick! Do you want Gotham so much to let her lose one of her knights for like, a week?"

The stare softened.

"For Gotham?"

Barbara sighed and gave a very small nod. "...For Gotham..."

The blonde grinned in victory and jumped to open the dooor. Jeez, Dick looked worse in person. Bags under his eyes and stubble a little too long and unkept to be flattering. Steph wondered how long they had been "fighting".

He barely even thank her before rushing in straight to Barbara's feet. Steph knew that was her cue to leave...but not too far, just in case Dick stuck his foot in the mouth and Babs pulled out the escrima sticks.
