MARVIN GAYE X CHAPEE X JOE LEFTY - DO YOU CRY (PRODUCED BY DJ DEVASTATE AND SEGERFALK)
After piercing our mind with the stunning project 7 Days Of Nas (check out One Love included on The Remix Session Vol.8) a remix EP finely crafted by swedish producer Max-I-Million , the indipendent label Counterweight Records , offers us another stupendous work in order to celebrate the legacy of soul icon Marvin Gaye. The hip-hop scene has always looked admiringly at Marvin Gaye as an immeasurable source of inspiration and many artists and producers used Marvin sample to create something big, you only have to think names such as: Pharrell Williams,Big K.R.I.T,Kanye West,Mos Def,J.Dilla,Common,D’Angelo,Jay-Z and the list goes on and on! Today we are going to introduce to you a cool piece but first of all we have to sing the praises of Counterweight Records for their genuine love for the hip-hop and their quality works and as they say “as time passes, and seasons change, music is often reincarnated into new forms, based on old recipes. 32 years after Marvin Gaye’s tragic passing death, we shed a tear and celebrate his life with a refreshing tribute”. Damn, the refreshing tribute is called Do You Cry. Swedish gifted producer DJ Devastate teams up with analog Sweden studio owner, keyboardist and synthesizer expert Fredrik Segerfalk to revisit I Heard It Through the Grapevine originally performed by Gladys Knight & The Pips and made it so epic by Marvin Gaye in 1968. Recruiting swedish emcees Chapee and Joe Lefty, DJ Devastate vents his incredible musical perspective, creating a bridge to connect classic with modern, soul with hip-hop and the result is something incredible. Chapee and Joe Lefty unleash supa-dupa-fresh rhymes over the majestic beats and all we can say is …..wow!
