"I'm not gonna take it back." // "I was scared..." // "I've never felt this way before."
"I’m not gonna take it back."
"Fine. Whatever," Noah pouted, slouching back on the couch as she dropped the Xbox controller in her lap, letting out a huff. "I swear, Jackson, I’ll make you eat those words next time we play. Now that I’ve got the hang of it, I’m definitely gonna kick your ass, and then you’ll really wanna take it back. No one calls me a loser without getting proved wrong," she challenged, shooting him a small smirk.
"I was scared…"
"Scared of what?" Bryson murmured quietly, the phone pressed up to his ear as he dug through his mini-fridge in his dorm, pulling out a coke. "Audrey, I’m fine.. I’ve just been really busy," he sighed a bit, closing his eyes and rubbing his forehead. Between studying, going to classes, attending parties, and doing anything else you’d expect from a college kid, Bryson simply didn’t have a lot of spare time to talk to Audrey. In a way, he felt guilty, but he also knew it wasn’t his fault. Right? "Anyway, I can try to skype you tomorrow, if you want."
"I’ve never felt this way before."
Despite himself, a crooked grin made it’s way onto Mason’s face as he pulled Rhiannon in closer to his side. “I don’t think I have either, really,” he shrugged, looking up at the ceiling. “I mean, it’s nice with Amanda. It’s not a bad relationship,” he nodded, turning his head to look over at her. “But it’s different with you, though. You make me feel different than she does.” It wasn’t very often that Mason was open with Rhiannon about how he feels about her, especially with their given circumstances, but at that moment — he didn’t care. “I just don’t want to fuck this up. That’s why things are they way they are.”
"Wow, that is a really pretty dress you’re wearing." // "You know, I was having a really rotten night last night… until you came along." // "I’m drunk? You’re drunk."
"Wow, that is a really pretty dress you’re wearing."
"Well, I would hope so," Noah chuckled, looking down at her dress as she tucked a strand of red hair behind her ear. She was still shocked that Jackson had agreed to take her to prom — the school she went to was a private school, but still, having the President’s son as her date would definitely get some people talking. Jackson had insisted that they couldn’t miss out on such a huge high school cliche, despite their situations, so they ended up deciding to go. Noah smiled gently as she took in the suit he was wearing, which was something she had become increasingly used to. "I would say you clean up nicely, but I think suits are a regular thing for you," she teased, leaning up to kiss him gently. She pulled away after a moment, sighing quietly. "Look, if things get too hectic, or just.. weird, then we can leave. Just come back here and watch some movies. Deal?”
"You know, I was having a really rotten night last night… until you came along."
Mason looked over at the brunette sitting on his bed beside him, his eyebrows raised quizzically. “Really?” He asked Rhiannon, his tone a bit more gentle than his usual way of speaking. “I mean — I knew it obviously couldn’t have been that great, considering how drunk you were, but.. I don’t know. I’m glad I made it better, at least,” he shrugged, shooting her a small grin as he placed a hand on her knee. “Look.. I wanna get to know you better. And I really don’t regret kissing you last night, no matter how shit faced we were,” he said seriously. “I’m not gonna say this whole phone thing was fate, or whatever, because fate is usually a bunch of bullshit. But I will say that I’m really glad it was you who accidentally stole my phone.”
"I’m drunk? You’re drunk."
Bryson leaned up against the side of Audrey’s bunk, closing his eyes as he laughed to himself. Audrey was sprawled out across her bed, her eyes glazed over as she played with her fingers. “Okay, you’re definitely drunk,” he said, climbing onto the bed with her. They were more than lucky the campers were out on a field trip for the night — if the camp owners found either one of them drunk, they’d lose their jobs for sure. As Bryson laid down beside Audrey, he felt a lump underneath her pillow, which he reached underneath to find a bottle. “Where’d you even find this stuff?” The boy asked, more amused than angry with her. If anything, he wished she would have invited him to join. Shrugging to himself, Bryson opened the bottle as he watched her giggle to herself “Eh, there’s still some left,” he murmured, glancing at his girlfriend before taking a sip himself. Yeah, she never failed to surprise him.
White House parties were always very busy, crowded, and quite frankly — pretty boring. And as Head of Security’s daughter and the President’s only son, Noah and Jackson were always forced to attend such gatherings. However, of course they always found ways to sneak away and instead spend some time alone. The thrill of possibly being caught together always managed to make the experience much more exciting, especially with Jackson’s ongoing “relationship” with one of the Congressmen’s daughters. Currently, the two stood outside in the backyard near the garden, hid away from anyone watching by shaded trees and the night sky. Noah’s head rested in the crook of Jackson’s neck as they slowly swayed back and forth to the muffled music coming from indoors. No words were exchanged between them, instead just innocent touches of hands as they quietly shifted from foot to foot. “You know,” Noah murmured, lifting her head up to meet his eyes. “Sometimes I really do hate having to live here — constantly hiding from people I don’t want to see, being forced to attend stuff like this, not really having a normal life..” she paused, taking a moment to smile softly at him. “But then I get to spend time with you like this and it reminds me why I’m really thankful to be here.”
♧: Your muse playing with their hair.
"Shhh. I think I’m getting the hang of it." Bryson laughed quietly as his fingers continued running through Audrey’s hair, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. His cabin full of kids were currently down by the lake along with her own, so naturally, they decided to spend the afternoon doing nothing together. After napping for a bit, with of course some making out in between, the two now found themselves with Audrey’s head in his lap as he attempted to figure out how the hell to braid hair. "Okay.. So you just take three pieces.." Bryson murmured to himself, taking a section of hair and trying to braid it, which only ended up twisting the hair in some weird way. Huffing slightly, Bryson dropped the three pieces and pouted in disappointment. "I give up. I don’t know how in the world you girls do this stuff," the boy chuckled and glanced down at Audrey’s face — only to see that she had fallen asleep on the spot. The sight made Bryson grin to himself, leaning back against the wall behind his bunk as he instead ran his fingers gently through her hair, completely content with life at the moment.
♘: Cuddling in a blanket fort
"Okay — I legit think this was my best idea yet." Biting his lip, Mason watched as Rhiannon adjusted the last blanket that would complete their blanket fort. You could definitely say that they had gotten a little bored, but hey, who wouldn’t wanna chill in a blanker fort? Those were Mason’s exact words when he had suggested it, earning a laugh and a nod of agreement from Rhiannon. Mason’s playful and childish attitude that came out when they were alone never failed to end up with some pretty interesting ways to cure boredom. And this was simply one example of it. "Alright, come on," the blond chuckled, reaching out for Rhi’s arm and pulling her down to where he was. He wrapped his arms around her and sighed quietly, relaxing against the mass amount of pillows they had stacked. "You bet your ass I’m never taking this thing down. Or letting you go home, for that matter," he teased.
"You never loved me." // "If you look like this, I’d hate to see the other guy." // "I don’t know what I’d do without you."
"You never loved me."
"Audrey, are you kidding me?" Bryson asked in a harsh tone, completely baffled by her words. "I know I’ve made some mistakes. I know that I’ve been the worst boyfriend in the world and hurt you in ways that I never thought possible. But damn it, don’t you dare tell me I never loved you,” the boy responded, his voice dropping slightly as he stepped forward. “That girl back home? She meant nothing to me. She still means nothing when compared to you. God, Audrey, you’re seriously blind if you can’t see how much I care about you. And that’s all the time — not just during the summer.”
"If you look like this, I’d hate to see the other guy."
"Well, unfortunately, I barely even got to swing at the guy. The dude had a strong arm," Mason chuckled, wincing slightly as Rhiannon held a bag of ice to his bruised cheek. At the party they had been attending, some asshole had been making rude comments about her, which Mason had luckily heard. And after a few harsh words exchanged, Mason ended up getting a few punches to the face and blacked out before being able to even get a hit in himself. "I’m glad you didn’t have to see me getting my ass kicked, though. You picked a good time to go to the bathroom," the blond smirked. "But I don’t mind getting a bruise every now and again if it means sticking up for you."
"I don’t know what I’d do without you."
Noah chuckled quietly, tucked into Jackson’s side as they laid down on his couch. “Hmm, let’s see,” she murmured, playing with the collar of his shirt. “Well, you’d be a lot more bored around this place, and probably wouldn’t have been introduced to as many books as you are now. You’d probably be stuck in a terrible, yet fake and forced relationship with Ashley — which you already are, but it’d also be without the whole exciting concept of dating me behind your dad’s back. God, your life would suck without me,” Noah smirked, obviously teasing as she looked up at him. “But then again, it’d be pretty lame if I didn’t have you either, so it really can go both ways.” The redhead knew that everything was dull and boring before Jackson came into her life, and she really couldn’t imagine going through any of this without him. The thought brought a small smile to her lips, causing her to lift her head and kiss him gently. “I really dig you, you know that?”
"Its okay, I'm here." // "I'm going to protect you." // "Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that." // "I don't care what they think, to me, you are perfect."
"It’s okay, I’m here."
"I know you are now.. But not for much longer,” Bryson sighed heavily, rubbing the bridge of his nose before pulling her closer against him. “We leave tomorrow, Audrey. I don’t know if I can handle being away from you for another year again,” he admitted quietly, running his fingers through her hair.
"I’m going to protect you."
"Isn’t it supposed to be my job to protect you?" Bryson asked with a cheeky grin. "Although, I do love seeing you get all feisty and protective of me sometimes. It’s kind of adorable and doesn’t happen often enough," he added in a teasing tone, kissing her head.
"Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that."
"Yeah — yeah, I hear it," Noah nodded with a quivering sigh, resting her head against his chest as she curled up against his side. Another nightmare of her dad getting injured on the job had woken her up, causing her to panic momentarily. "I’m okay. You should go back to sleep," she whispered to Jackson, giving him a shaky smile.
"I don’t care what they think, to me, you are perfect."
"Well, according to your dad, I’m not." Shrugging, Noah looked down at the ground as she spoke. "I don’t understand why he can’t just accept the fact that you want to be with me.. And not that stupid bimbo he’s making you run around with," she murmured, lifting her head up to meet his eyes. "I just wish things were easier for us. That’s all."
"OH MY EFFING GOD!" // “I want to see all the parts of you, even the ones you are ashamed of.” // "I have no time to care.” // “So dramatic, you should be a writer.”
"OH MY EFFING GOD!"
Bryson laughed in amusement, shaking his head as he raised his eyebrows. “Woah, easy,” he chuckled, leaning against the side of the cabin doorway, not sure exactly what he walked in on, but Audrey was obviously having some issues at the moment. “Everything alright?” He asked, trying to show a little bit of worry, even though he was still trying to get over the fact she said effing. It was adorable.
“I want to see all the parts of you, even the ones you are ashamed of.”
"I think you’re really the only person I’ll allow to do that," Noah chuckled quietly, looking down at their hands as she played with his fingers. "I’ve never let in anyone like this. It’s — definitely new to me. But I just trust you a lot, I guess." She lifted her head to look at him, offering a small shrug followed by a smile.
"I have no time to care.”
"Well, you should care," Bryson said solemnly, sitting on the edge of Audrey’s bunk as he watched her continue packing. "I know you don’t like to think about it, or don’t wanna talk about it, or whatever. But — we need to figure out what we’re gonna do about this. Us. Summer’s over," he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I can’t be the only one who cares, here. We need to figure out, together, how we’re gonna be able to get through another year again. Especially with college."
“So dramatic, you should be a writer.”
"Very funny," Noah rolled her eyes, chuckling just a bit afterward. "Too bad I’m not the writer here. That’s you. And I’m not dramatic — I just have a very vivid way of telling stories. Get used to it, kiddo.”
"Don’t pout" // "Stop making this so hard." // "I have a date with an ice cream carton and on demand movies." // "It’s not a date."
"Don’t pout."
"I’m not pouting," Noah sighed, crossing her arms defensively. "I just — are you sure you can’t just skip the banquet and watch movies with me instead?” She whined, looking up at Jackson sadly. “I’m sure Mr. President can handle this one without you there.”
"Stop making this so hard."
"It’s hard for me every year, Audrey. You know that," Bryson sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "What happens when we go to college, anyway? When we stop coming to camp? I.. I’m just really not looking forward to the end of summer. That’s all."
"I have a date with an ice cream carton and on demand movies."
"Unless you don’t plan on doing that alone, that sounds horribly boring. Tell you what — I’ll get the ice cream, you pick the movie," Bryson nodded. "That sounds like a cliche-couple thing to do, after all."
"It’s not a date."
"I know, I know. It’s all for good publicity — I get it. Your dad’s smart that way,” Noah sighed, running a hand through her hair. “But I still don’t like the way she looks at you. I see the pictures in the magazines, and it takes everything in me to not feel like ripping her hands off of you every time I see you two together.”
