Bio
Yu Yan is a mysterious entity that was born in--
...no one knows much about.
Studies at Yokae have revealed that he is heavily aligned with the infernal element, and that he was Jurou’s guide through what can only be called ‘hell’, after he died during a knife fight at 16.
Ju’s soul had left his body and turned up in Xiu; a realm Yu Yan created where low-level yokai live safely from more powerful predators.
While not usually much of a threat, those entities could easily devour a human’s soul--and Yu Yan could tell it wasn’t Jurou’s time.
He chased off those attempting to eat him, and took up the task of guiding Jurou to a dimensional door where he could resurrect. The journey there would take weeks in the human realm, and it was during that time the two got to know one another.
Specifically...Yu Yan sensed that the boy was a spirit rod, who would constantly attract supernatural forces his way.
He knew that the second he left his side, more shit would go down and the guy would have no one around to help him. He’d wind back up in Xiu and they’d have do this all over again.
And so...reluctantly...Yu Yan asked if Jurou would want him to stay at his side, as a sentinel against would-be threats.
It pleasantly surprised him when he agreed.
This ‘agreement’ is a karmic binding that grants Jurou the ability to use magic in exchange for the spirit’s feasting on his energy.
Yu Yan jokingly likes to call this contact their marriage, and often refers to Ju as his wife--despite the rain of bullets he gets in response.
The yokai from Xiu often appear in Jurou’s apartment as well, begging for training from Yu Yan or for attention from Ju. Those that are particularly brave (and stupid) will refer to the black hair as ‘mother’ for a high enough bribe.
Thus, the neighbors around the apartment building hear a lot of ‘I’M NOT YOUR FUCKING MOTHER!’ during the week. But only Jurou hear’s the demon’s barking laughter.
Facts
+ He may seem nonchalant toward Ju, but Yu Yan extremely serious about his safety and overall well-being. He wishes he would listen to him more often.
+ The cyber war was absolute torture for him. He not only had a hard time trying to guard Jurou from cyber based threats, (something the demon isn’t used to) but his yokai kept insisting on appearing in battles as well--refusing to leave he or Ju’s side while they were in danger.
While extremely touching, the weakened beings were no match against the insanely powerful attacks being thrown...and many of them perished.
No matter how desperately he’d yelled for them to retreat, their loyalty wouldn’t allow it. And ever since, Yu Yan has carried a great melancholy in his heart.
+ He likes for Chanty to be safe as well, even though she can’t see him. Other than Ju, no normal human can--only beings of magic or a high spiritual frequency.
+ Saya is an odd topic for him. On one hand, he’s fascinated by her abilities; on the other, he’s scorned by how effortlessly she wins Jurou’s affection--without even realizing it.
+ His hobbies include eating, trying to calm people’s tits, watching movies about feudal Japan, aggravating Ju, and patrolling Xiu.
