22: Nap
It was late. Very, very late. Far later than it had any right to be, but then again- There wasn’t much of a point to sleeping if you weren’t going to wake up again, was there? Still, you had to admit, you couldn’t keep this up for much longer without eventually succumbing to your body’s natural exhaustion.
The sand seemed to cradle your arms and legs as the moon swam above your head, gently wavering in the sky. They said it didn’t have much time left. You wondered what that meant, but you knew you’d find out soon enough.In, and out. In, and out. In… and out. The translucent ooze replacing the sea followed this pattern, sometimes pausing to catch the specks of light tumbling from the sky. You had caught one once, and on a whim, put it into your mouth. It tasted like pumpkin seeds and morning dew.
There couldn’t be much left now, right? In and out, in and out. This was the last night you’d spend alive. In, out, and in again. It couldn’t hurt to just… Rest your eyes, right? Just a short break, it would only be for a moment, it HAD to be okay, /right?/ It’d be fine. The moon wouldn’t vanish until you were there to see it. You had a deal, didn’t you? A long blink, that’s all it was. Nothing but a quick… nap.
