Vis managed to convince Chase to go to a pride parade with him- and let him pick out his own outfit. With the addition of the fancy, billowing wizard’s cloak, Chase was happy, and most importantly, comfortable enough, to go outside and enjoy the celebration.
((Chase/Chaos belongs to the lovely @swaggyeaglesart.))
(had to submit to bypass character limit... now that my anon's busted I suppose you can reply via email if you prefer ahaha)
Adding my responses in bold to address each bit separately. I have been meaning to answer this for a while and apologize for the delay. I will add a link HERE (if I can find it) to the original question.
Thanks a ton for your insight! Indeed, the species in question (they’re centaurs) has a hunter-gatherer type society, and in addition, they’re unaware any other species with a longer lifespan exists. Puberty is about age 5-7 but childbearing age lasts comparatively late in life.
This could be more of a biological issue, if their brains/bodies develop at a faster rate than ours or longer lived species, this rapid acceleration could also explain why they have shorter lifespans. Adolescence and childhood cognitive development for one is primarily a frontal lobe development issue and if our frontal lobes, bodies, skulls, brains, developed and grew faster we would achieve many adult like capabilities and higher order thinking processes faster. For one, the frontal lobe also continues to develop well past puberty into our 20s before we see the end of brain development.
The physical childhood and adolescent development could be explained by saying that’s how their hormones work, and to an extent that could help accelerate the psychological development that goes with it? possibly? (Though it’s hard to imagine that going much faster, at least to me.)
Definitely, increased hormonal release could help to accelerate their development. I would imagine this would mean much more sleep and caloric intake at a younger age (maybe through their entire lifespan) to cope with the rapid growth (probably just with brain growth and processing as well) Though biopsych is not my expertise.
It’s the middle and late adulthood psychology which troubles me most because seems more a thing that requires those decades of experience to progress through (looking at Erikson’s model). At least, it doesn’t make as much sense to just compress those to get them all in.
If you focus on Erikson, we can break down down the stages and I think they would work well for a shorter life. Identity could be something discovered or assigned based on ability and skill by the tribe or community. If their are social systems in place to keep everyone in this mindset it could speed the process, which leaves the option to have those who want to choose for themselves, which makes for a good trope in storytelling. Intimacy is also failry easy to speed up, plenty of animals have more rapid maturity, mating, bonding, etc than humans do and this generally comes with a need to procreate in a shorter timespan than humans. The remaining two adult stages generativity (which can tie into fulfilling ones identity, producing something to aid the tribe or community) and ultimately ego integrity (which would mean they feel that their lives were successful and its important to note that this can be independent on how others view their life achievements and could also tie into their own cultural beliefs of death and the afterlife)
If that’s the case, they would simply never have the time to acquire the ego integrity stage. super depressing.
I feel that they would, just in much less time. you could speed up the ages based on the fraction of their lifespan with ego integrity achieved in their early 20s for example, it would ultimately have to happen if they have a human like or human-similar intelligence/psychology but because development/achievement/maturity comes sooner it comes sooner as well. You would also have to decide what is important to each individual and the societal views on personal achievement to help work out the success/failure of the final stage and how they enter it.
Unless they go through a different set of stages. Which seems much more feasible, but I don’t know where to start outlining that, so if there are any other scales you can refer me to, that’d be fantastic. The anthropological approach you mentioned sounds about perfect if we even have something like that defined. :o
Early humans most likely went through similar stages, seeking prestige, finding their place in the community, finding a suitable mate/partner without the life spans we have now due to illness and other factors. And it is also important to note that these stages are more scaled, the age rages can be misleading. technically I am currently working on Generativity/Stagnation, I have a pretty strong identity and I feel I have passed the intimacy/isolation stage. This would mean I am in the 7th stage about 10-20 years too early according the a strict age guideline. So they can happen earlier or later, a lot of it comes down to psychological development and life experience.
(I really care about this because it’s too often ignored in fantasy. “It’s my race! It’s my species! It’s my 50000+ year old demon/vampire/god who acts like a preteen, I can do whatever I want because it’s fantasy!" Bah, but it’s so much more satisfying to research and think about it a little.)
Thanks again for taking the time to reply ;v; I’ve been annoying the heck out of everyone this semester with questions like this, whee

5, 8, 11, 20, 24, 28, 42, 45, 70, 112, 137-142, 150. Just something to keep you busy! And to learn more about you :)
5. If you were drunk would the person you like take care of you?
Oh my, I’m a really embarrassing drunk so I hope it doesn’t come to that quite yet, but yes I know that he would.
8. Who from the opposite gender is on your mind?
My wolf. Strong jaw, gentle eyes, giant heart.
11. What does the most recent text that you sent say?
"How did you know I love brunch? I’ll try my best to help however I can. Just let me know when you want to meet and I’ll be there."
20. Do you like your neighbors?
Depends which house you’re referencing. On Greek Row my house is next to a sorority of vapid blondes - so no. In our little hut in the woods, we’re in the middle of nowhere. We don’t have neighbors.
24. Favorite part of your daily routine?
It used to be picking out my lipstick - the finishing touch that made me officially ready to go out into the world. Now it’s right when I open my eyes and I curl around the warm familiar shape in my bed. It’s hard to stick to any routine when you don’t want to start your day.
28. Who are you most comfortable around?
42. If your being extremely quiet what does it mean?
It means something is really affecting me whether it be good or bad. That I’m actually spending time thinking before doing or saying. I’m rarely as careful with my words as I should be, but when something really matters and when I’m really invested or scared or so angry at everything I become silent. It’s like raw emotion paralyzes me.
45. What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
I wake up thinking about everything I have to do. Making lists, obsessing over plans. My mind is already out the door before my feet even hit the floor. ‘Always stay busy.’ Maybe it’s my mother’s voice in my head that I need to chase out.
70. Names of your bestfriends?
Friends without complicated romantic entanglements that making being real friends hard? I guess that would be Rhine and Lydia, but I don’t know if Lydia ever really considered me a friend. Just Rhine then.
112. Who was the last person you cried in front of?
Brandon.
37. How tall are you?
A very short 5’ 3” but that’s why someone made heels.
138. Curly or Straight hair?
Curly, but my hair looks pretty amazing regardless. I have great hair.
139. Brunette or Blonde?
Brunette, I think.
140. Summer or Winter?
Summer, but I have become pretty attached to hot tea and sweaters in the cold.
141. Night or Day?
Everything is brighter and more vibrant in the day, but all the fun happens at night. It’s two different Arias that’s for sure, so I’m just not going to chose. Take that.
142. Favourite month?
February - my Birthday and Valentine’s Day.
150. Get the closest book next to you, open it to page 42, what’s the first line on that page?
"… like an upside-down cake made of diamonds, flushed white and brilliant from the ceiling." - Like Normal People by Karen Bender
How would Sara fair as a parent?
Sara proved herself as a good mother figure when Harkness has left and Butch and Maria were in need of her helping them through the four months he was gone. She was willing to put them first before her own health to the point that it did make her very physically ill but she still tried her best to care for the two vault dwellers against it all as best she could.
In my mind she will be a good mother as soon as she learns that she can take care of other’s and herself.
((do you think if Sara just had like an invincible kitten to cuddle she might be OK (just kidding: do you think Sara could ever survive independently of anyone else - not alone, per say, but without 'needing' people, I guess?)))
A KITTY WOULD EAT HER RAT. D:
Sara could for a while but eventually something around her would reminder her of her past and her mind would start playing tricks on her and when the hallucination/illusion goes away she would wish for it back and the self mutliation would start purely because Sara would wish to drive her mind back to seeing that. People around her that care for her keep her from loosing the small bit of sanity that she has left.
Sara in the near future for this? Maybe. Right now? No.
