doomed from the start.

there was no way of winning, and you knew it too. but you still tried. you tried again and again and again to change it. you fought tooth and claw to change your fate, but she cannot be easily manipulated. it’s not your fault. the game was always rigged against you. from the moment you entered the narrative, your fate was sealed. you didn’t stand a chance.

what body part are you?

heart.

A heart in a cynical sense feels nothing, it simply carries through all the blood, all the oxygen, all the components the other parts that do feel need. An ugly organ, misshapen and strange when held in the palm of your hand. Yet, it is the centre of your being. It is the core. Even when you try to act unaffected, it is your heart that gives you away, skipping a beat, fluttering in excitement, halting dead in terror. You have so much of it to give, you just haven’t learned to discern who is and isn’t worthy of it yet. Hold onto it. Do not whittle it down, carve names into the flesh that you cannot erase. Remain patient, remain astute, and remain loving.

-> while most known for fighting about morals and mutants, scott and logan’s real battles against one another are in pool. they’re pretty equally matched— logan has the experience and can deftly maneuver, but scott has better strategy than logan on the green field of a pool table. if you thought their fights over the x-men were rough, you should have seen the time logan “accidentally” jostled scott on one of the last plays of the game— leading scott into mirroring the same for logan’s next move and… well, the pool table was in splinters after that night. only once has logan said scott was better, and that was after getting near shitfaced off of booze gifted from hercules. they never mentioned it, however, considering logan won the next three times they played. evenly matched in pool— but logan might’ve stolen a few techniques off scott. -> one of their favorite exercises in the danger room is bouncing scott’s beams off logan’s claws. the ricochet does, indeed, take a spot over scott slowing logan’s fall with the optic blasts, lmao. despite over a decade of practice, they still don’t gave it down to a t. the idea came to both of them at the same time, after a battle where logan leaped, claws out, just as scott’s visor was raised. that moment resulted in, immediately; the beams blasting against logan’s arms and hands, part of them bouncing off his claws and hitting an already crumbling structure, and later; planning and practice to get this new usage down. -> scott and logan don’t like to just talk when they’re driving/flying together, they prefer to blast music a little bit louder than expected. surprisingly, they share a lot of music taste; though logan’s leans more country and folk, and cyclops’ leans more metal and 80s. regardless, there is a shared love for 80s hits that neither of them ever acknowledge outside of those car / plane rides when it’s just them. muttering the lyrics is usually enough for both, but it’s interchanged with knowing looks and half-smiles. bonding activities for men that aren’t just taking your frustrations out on one another.

-> these two have spent, probably, at least half their time together working on mechanics. it's a shared interest, and logan finds rogue to be one of the few people he can actually stand working on cars with. for a lot of his teammates and friends, it becomes a "get out of my kitchen garage" type thing, despite many of them having skill in it that rivals his own-- but rogue doesn't hit that specific nerve. them tossing back a couple beers while smeared with oil and chattering about how shitty the mileage is on scott's car is... well, that has stuck as one of logan's favorite activities, ever, for years. -> rogue has the tendency to ruffle logan's hair when walking by him-- without even stopping to chat, and funnily enough, he often allows it. normally, logan is not one for letting people touch his hair. he doesn't consider himself touchy-feely in general, but he allows hugs on more than occasion despite himself-- but hair is pretty much always a no-go. but with rogue's mutation, having that point of contact that is about as close to skin-to-skin without actually being it-- logan lets it slide. it's a very casual gesture that occurs in moments when they just pass each other in the hall or if logan is brooding and rogue happens to be around-- she might whip off the glove and ruffle his hair just a little. -> the only time logan has called rogue anna marie is when she remarked "james?!" after finding out his real name. they quickly learned their shared... dislike of using those legal, family names. it's not to say neither don't acknowledge them; logan has embroidered gloves for her with her initials (hehe), and rogue has remarked about how two people close to mr. steve rogers are both james. but it's a shared feature, and a shared grief. neither will use those names for one another out loud, but acknowledging, indirectly, that important part of their identities is something has happened.

-> logan and jubilee have gone to a roller rink together. it was surprisingly easy for jubes to convince logan to go, even though he fell on his ass very quickly and... maybe dented the floor in doing so. turns out, though he can ice skate, he cannot rollerblade/skate. despite a bruised ego, they had a great time, and jubilee definitely still has pictures of logan grumbling over the incident. he has not stepped back into a roller rink again, despite being begged to do so, quite a bit. -> he prefers calling her jubilation or firecracker over jubilee or jubes. it's not for any particular reason besides feeling more right-- though, on some level, it is a note to their more intimate and familial dynamic, which logan still struggles to define as father-daughter or just mentor-mentee. him using jubilation especially ellicits the feeling of "i am your father, even if only through chosen means, not often voiced". it's also incredibly funny to logan when people do not realize her real name is jubilation lee. prime humor, in his honest opinion. -> logan has cut jubilee's hair before, specifically during her run as a vampire. no, it was not with his claws, it was with scissors. SMH. he understands the meaningfulness of hair, and how personal presentation to the outside world can be very important. it's very important to him, and jubilee's iconic style he views to be an intrinsic part of her. logan kind of viewed the hair cutting back into a shorter style as her letting go to of the darkest era of just being turned a vamp and.. transitioning into coping with being depowered and vampiric. he doesn't know if she agrees with that sentiment, but it's how he viewed it.

teeth.

To tear, to rip, to eat, to devour. You’ve only barked and attacked your whole life, bitten and torn at the hands that approached you, unable to tell if they were going to feed you or hurt you. Not uncommon for someone who has endured what you have. Sometimes they can turn in on yourself, biting and tearing flesh at every crevice of your being until you can find what’s underneath, to truly know who you are. But you won’t. Teeth always rot and fall out, and when that day comes, you will be weak and defenceless, muzzled and useless. So while you can, look to the cameras and give us a big smile.
