I re-watched Dirty Harry after Stepping Into The Light. Does anyone tried to give Scorpio background? Some fics maybe? nothing on AO3 but... I have a great desire to give Scorpio background. I think even inside the narration they missed essential background - they knew who he was after stadium and they still didn’t tell us shit. Andy had a thought that he must be Vietnam veteran because he’s a sniper, and that’s where his madness lies - in PTSD. But I want to know more than that. And some hippy symbols like long hair and that wonky peace buckle which was clashing with his army boots - that’s all Don Siegel gave to the character. So what do you think? He once was pacifist (it’s his old clothes, he’s practically hobo so he wears what he has, it’s actually feels that the cloths are not his size any more) but then he was convinced that he has to go to the war and then when he came back he was discarded not only by government but by his old peers and he himself felt that the war was senseless and so anything else is senseless too, so he tried another meaning in life that was popularised at that time and what he was lack of: money. I don’t know. I also noticed that he’s fond of children, that’s a strange claiming after what he did to them but the only sincere feeling I felt from him is when he was watching children on the playground and was singing with children in the bus in the beginning of that segment. I think there is something about that, too. Maybe he lost a little bother, I don’t think he’s old enough to be a father of a ten year-old but who knows. Criminal Minds taught me that behind every psycho is a story and not being able to know it kinda unsettles me. People do have reasons. It’s not an excuse (cool motive, still murder) but at least it’s not chaos. I think what most distressing about Scorpio as a character was that nobody understood why he did what he did (that was one hope I had for the book, actually, that Andy had the background). Well, money is not the reason, we all want money, why some can go to that extreme for it? What is his desperation?
