My family were nobles with interest and investments in the Sunsail Anchorage and ties with the families living in Silvermoon. Arcane constructs tapped my cheek to keep me from sleeping in. Enchanted brooms kept our floors dust free. And nearly everyone I knew could conjure macaroons for mid-day treats.
So when I agreed to a vacation to Suramar, I didn't expect it to impress me. From what I've heard, our cities were quite similar, with differences being limited to dominant color and residents. Purely superficial things, in other words.
Yet, there was a certain magic that stole my heart and left me uttering sighs of "oooh" "ahhh" and "Look over there!". And I fully place the blame on Ilyssae.
The soft and subtle shades were pleasing to the eyes. Especially when compared to how garishly bright Silvermoon's pavillions could be. The air had a subtle tingle and scent as hedge mages conjured adornments to everything from jewelry to baked goods to please visitors and residents alike. And the flowers...ah me, I can't say enough about the flowers.
Yet, as vivid and extravagant as it all was, I never felt it to be ostentatious or pretentious. I saw patterns within the colors and decor that drew the eye deeper and deeper to the shops, restaurants, and venues we explored. It was, as I told Ily, as if a painter was consulted to design the city before they ever reached out to an architect.
Yet, that wasn't what stood out to me most.
Instead, I think of Ilyssae. My siren. My moon.
She has taught me to live again. She has taught me to see the wonders of our world and to allow myself to enjoy them. She has given my heart permission to find pleasures in things, even if my mind thought I wouldn't be impressed in the slightest.
Had I written this page before I met her, it would have been two sentences long followed by a detailed itinerary of what I hoped to accomplish while I was here. A joyless experience to be sure.
It's also why I hope to help her should we bump into her past while we're here. But I hear that the shower's off, so I will leave this journal here for now. We're going to explore and try our first Suramar dinner tonight, and knowing her we'll be running down a dozen streets before we settle on one.
And though my feet and mind may complain, my heart and smile
