today i had an unusual schedule as i had to catch a long distance train and was home until sometime. so i have a slightly unusual listening record today. i feel like i'm writing a bit about my personal life today but before i get into that, here's new girl by jai'len josey. i've been listening to it on repeat because it's so easy on ears but also there's something very veteran about it. so i had a quick look and apparently madness was involved and i'm fully satisfied with my knowledge. for that reason, new girl kind of reminds me of make me feel by janelle monáe in which, according to monáe herself, had prince involved (but the track was released after prince's passing.
this is a good kind of collaboration i'm a sucker for. so i'm also gonna mention about the goat arif mardin.
don't know why (and the whole album) by norah jones. when my dad introduced me norah jones, he told me that this album was produced by arif mardin who famously produced chaka khan.
and that's also prince. maybe my taste in music is not eclectic. maybe just prince.
i always feel like i feel for you by chaka khan is sang by some kinda non-sentient machine being who has no feelings and i feel for you by prince is sang by someone who was feeling it (prince). i like both versions including the non acoustic non demo version by prince.
anyway, here's some personal shit: since i've not been spending much time at home much 10:00–17:00 on weekdays and i had been staying with a friend for a couple of weeks, my faint good feeling and positivity immediately disappeared and i felt like i was suddenly pulled back into the space where i'd self evaluate my own worth and started looking for side businesses whilst working. actually the self evaluation thing started because i finished watching queenie and her mother told her that she changed the family history (implied for the better) just by existing and i sort of started panicking. about a decade ago, i made out with a stranger because he lost a bet or something and i was like wow how bad did he lose to make out with this middle aged rando and i've been wondering if it did anything to my self-worth but 10+ years later i still feel the same way so maybe not. i wonder how bad it was. and i kept staring at the job listings without really looking at the details because i'm still a bit too tired from some intense period of work and things and also needless to say the job market is full of ai.
so, today has been a bit of a bipolar emotional rollercoaster and coming back to listening to what i was listening to on my commute yesterday morning felt like returning to an old habit after a while.
this was not the first song the algorithm provided but i felt like triste performed by elis regina was the most appropriate track.
but sky dive by freddie hubbard was what brought me back to the journey i had yesterday morning. it sounded so appropriate for a summer playlist and my summer playlist that i've just started making is not at all like this.
my wip summer 2026 playlist currently has hopeless romantic by kwn and i'm not sure about it so i might just mention that it was in the list here and remove it from the actual playlist at peace.
back to the algorithm journey, i listened to skyscrapers by deodato and i was again impressed by it so i took a screenshot. it's not really really my cup of tea but there's something candid about it. maybe i'm getting into his stuff.
i was going to add more music but apparently tumblr limits the amount of videos per post so this is the last song for today. raga bhairav (or bhairav?) by charanjit singh. before i listened to this, i was vaguely thinking about yello's oh yeah for some reason (i just think about other songs while listening to songs i guess) so the sound of tom tom esque percussion made me wonder if this was actually oh yeah and i had to cover my ears to listen to the sounds through my bone conducting headphone more closely. (i was walking by the river). i knew nothing about charanjit singh but apparently he's known as a pioneer of acid house. Synthesizing: Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat is a sick title for an album. kinda sounds like some educational thing.
ok but for real, this is it for today. see you maybe tomorrow. (i have no wifi now and i'm nearly maxxed out on my mobile internet so idk what i'm gonna do tho)
ciao.
