Senri is in the water of the Sea of Nectar (he thinks that’s the name). Well, specifically he is wading off the shore of the first beach he found upon arriving at... the place with the water. His shoes are abandoned on the shore but other than that he is completely dressed. Though he can still feel the sand beneath his feet, he is submerged enough to be content.
How Senri got here is a bit more involved. It started as simple as a longing. Or more a missing. A missing of something. He missed the water, though it hadn’t been that long since the last time he swam. Koharu on the edge of the Norn’s lake, still nervous to get very deep. She just had to get her confidence up. That is generally what she needed to do, not just in regards to swimming.
The water wasn’t the only thing he missed.
So, he did the only thing he could do, he filled the bathtub with water and sat down in it. Fully clothed. It occurred to him after getting in that there might be a swimsuit in the drawers of the room. After all, there had been all his other clothes in the draws he’d checked. Well, it was too late for that. Besides, after a few minutes it was clear this wasn’t going to work. It was water, yes, and he did feel a little better, but it really wasn’t the same. He was going to have to do it. He was going to have to go outside. Which proved to be even more complicated and troublesome than he expected.
First, he had to battle with the weird thing that was called the holophone. It didn’t look like any phone Senri had ever seen, that’s for sure. After relentlessly tapping he managed to get it to spit out useful information. Like where water was, which was really the only information he wanted. It turned out there was a lot of water but it was not a train rides away. This hardly seemed worth it but Koharu’s determined voice echoed in his head, “I want you to see more of the world beside your room, but only as much as you want to see.” Senri sighed, after a nap then.
He went to sleep, woke up and remembered to check if there was a bathing suit. There was, but he wasn’t going to just wear it on the train and if he brought it with him he would have to find someplace to change and leave his actual clothes and all that felt like too much. Took a train ride on something that sort of resembled a train but wasn’t.
And honestly, it was worth it for the now. He really, really missed the water. It’s a little different, but water is water.

After the food stand, Kris wanders towards the shoreline, as fascinated by the vast expanse of water as they were by the vast expanse of space. They sit in the sand to take their shoes and socks off, then put their feet in the water, wiggling their toes until they’re buried in the sand. It might be hours that they stand there, gazing out at the light glinting off the crests of distant waves, before they finally break the spell and turn to go examine the pier, curious.
At the end of it there’s a staircase, and Kris doesn’t think twice before descending, shoes in hand, bare feet leaving damp marks on each step. They exit on the first floor, moving to stare out the transparent glass, still fascinated by the play of light and water.
They lived near a shore, once. They had almost gone to the beach, but the parents had insisted they couldn’t wear socks between their feet and the scratchy texture of the sandals, and it had hurt so much they cried, until the parents decided it was too much work and took them back to the house.
The sound of a young voice arguing behind them makes them turn, instinctively curious, and they freeze in place when they see the back of a head of brown hair, a green shirt and yellow stripe. They don’t know what it is about the figure exactly that makes them nervous, but it’s something, to be certain.
Maybe the way they’re intimidating one of the talking birds at least their own size.
Another bird asks if they’re okay- which would be fine, except it asks from behind, and Kris startles, a shudder running up their spine and making them jump away, only to stumble and crash to the ground with a faint sound that’s equal parts surprise and pain. For a moment, they’re so preoccupied with that, they don’t even realize they’ve crashed right at the feet of that small but frightening figure.
