(I was looking through a tag for info on this, and I saw you'd made a bunch of posts) What actually happened with charat? I took a break from roleplaying while all the drama happened, and when I came back to it again, I couldn't find any information about what happened except vague stuff. Also, charat has been down for a long time, right? I can never get to it on my laptop anymore. I thought everything got shut down for some reason.

Now, I may be wrong on a few points, I was there when it happened but it was chaos and there’s a lot that was said.

As far as my knowledge goes, CharatRP was shut down because of massive backlash over its owner, Sho, pressuring minors for pictures/ERP and generally just. Basically being a pedophile. It came to light, a lot of things got shut down, and the entire site went down for several months. Most RPers have now moved to MSParp, which has had its own issues but is starting to look up again.

As for Charat’s fate, it actually came back for a little while, but was borderline unusable. The ability to see searched tags was gone, so no one could see what anyone was searching and you basically had to pray. No surprise that pretty much no one used it. Last I had looked before I got this ask, it was still up, just pretty much no one using it, but now it looks like it’s well and truly gone for good.

MSPARP is still planning the panfandom stuff. They talk about it on their development blog

I will admit, I hadn’t even known the development blog EXISTED prior to this ask. It’s not linked on the site and I literally had to search “MSParp development blog” to find it at all, so thank you for letting me know that exists.

That said, I’m not seeing much about implementing Panfandom things. This blog has nothing so far and I’ve gotten to posts from over a year ago, and so far this is all I can find on any sort of potential Panfandom things, and no Panfandom plans are listed in their Planned Features section. After that previously linked post, the next time there’s any word is Aug 16 2016.

I have absolutely no problem with the prospect of MSParp including Panfandom potential, I would be absolutely fucking ecstatic if they did. However, with the information I have so far, I’m not really optimistic about it. I understand they’ve been having other issues with the site, namely the Ghost User issue, but if there’s any word that they’re still working on or planning to work on Panfandom potential, I can’t find it.

If anyone has more info on this, please let me know!

Potential New Panfandom RP site?

It’s been a while since CharatRP shut down and came back as... Well, utter shit. And let’s face it, as fantastic as MSParp is, if they haven’t implemented something for their Non-HS userbase by now, they’re probably not planning on it.

I’m not exaggerating when I say CharatRP changed my life. The kind of place it was, I’d love to get that back. Many times, I’ve considered making a site like it myself. I have more than six years of RP experience and several years of experience Modding and Co-modding chats, and it seems to me that it wouldn’t be terribly different, or at least, I would be able to learn what needs to be done to moderate a RP site relatively quickly. However, I have two main problems.

1) Coding

I don’t know much about code, both in general and when it comes to making a website. Now there are a couple ways around this: I could teach myself, through online tutorials, asking other people, etc, or I could bring someone else on board to do it. Which brings me to my other problem-

2) Money

Owning a site of course costs money. Now I’m not sure how much it would be, since I haven’t looked into it yet, but at this point in time, I really don’t have any money that I could put towards this. The (debatably) best solution would be to set up a sort of crowdfunding/patreon thing, with the money entirely going to keeping the site up and running. The problem with this is I’m not entirely sure we could bring in enough money to actually keep the site up, as I’m not sure how much money it takes to buy/maintain a site like CharatRP or MSParp.

That’s why I’m making this post, to gauge the interest in contributing to making a site like this a reality. Please, spread this around if you’re interested, it would be nice to see if I’m not the only one who would love to get a good PanFandom RP site up and running.

The charat thing is a complex situation. The version that was brought online was indeed the original owners. They were hosting it on a new place. Basically they were already planning to change the site to that, but the process got escalated when the old site lost its hosting. It's part of why no one uses the site. It's both unappealing and owned by a confirmed pedophile.

Oh, Sho is still the one running Charat? Didn’t know that. But yea, even with that, the new Charat is literally garbage. If it really is Sho still running it, they’re a fucking idiot. (Though really, it doesn’t seem that complex to me. The new site is garbage so people don’t use it, or didn’t try to since what happened with Sho)

You know what gets me about CharatRP to this day? They changed everything.

I understand why the site went down, I totally agree. But when they put it back up, under new ownership if I’m right, they changed everything. And while some changes made sense, like having people make accounts, most didn’t, and I don’t know of a single person who actually liked those changes. It shows in how there’s maybe five people who still use it.

There was no reason to change it all, it worked fine as it was and really only needed minor adjustments. And when people voiced their displeasure about the changes... No one did a thing. Charat is still as bad as it was when it came back. Which basically tells me that they didn’t care, and that just makes me wonder why they brought it back in the first place if that was the case.

I’ve thought about making my own panfandom RP site, since MSPARP screws you for one-on-one RPs unless you’re HS or Undertale, but I don’t have the money to get a site or the coding knowledge to maintain it. Which sucks, because I know there’s a lot of people out there who feel similarly to myself.
