Cleansing and Charging Box

A perpetual spell to cleanse and charge small objects

Hi! Aster here! I’m an eclectic witchling so I’m still pretty new to magick and my own practice is a sort of combination of others. That being said, Tumblr has been such a valuable resource. So many witches sharing so much knowledge. Recently I have been inspired by @starborn-witch ‘s Manifestation Box and Banishing Bin spells, so I decided to try my hand at making my own perpetual spell, reminiscent of starborn-witch’s style (much love to you!). So here we go!

Cleansing and charging are arguably some of the most important magickal skills a witch can possess. Because of this, having a way to quickly cleanse and charge tools would be an amazing time and energy saver. This particular spell was created with crystals in mind.

Spell Components:

- a small white box with lid

- sea salt

- a square of some type of cushioning fitted to the inside of the box

- white tissue paper

- a Post-It

- something to write with

- (optional) a wand

- (optional) mortar and pestle

Steps:

First, you should gather your spell components. If you normally cast a circle and/or ground and center before performing magick, do so now. Next, grind the sea salt into a fine powder. (Salt tends to clump.) Use a mortar and pestle if you need to. You’ll want the salt to lay flat in the box. Next place the cushioning over the salt and then make a sort of nest in the box with the tissue paper. (I’ve included pictures as a reference. Shout out to my new gorgeous labradorite!) Wrap up whatever needs to be cleansed and charged and on a Post-It write/draw whatever focuses your intent, be it an affirmation or symbols [I used both (I used the astrological symbols of the Sun and Moon since their light/power will be the primary fuel to for this spell but you can totally tweak this to fit your own preferences)]. Place the Post-It inside of the lid and closed the box. The next step is completely optional but if you use a wand, wave it over the box to “activate” the spell (this makes me feel extra witchy and there’s nothing wrong with feeling extra witchy. Plus, I really love my rose wand). You can also just activate the spell by snapping your fingers or clapping your hands. Finally, place the box on a windowsill that gets a decent amount or sun/moonlight along with any other items you wish to cleanse and charge (hi there tarot!) and viola!

The cushioning and tissue paper are meant to protect salt-sensitive crystals while the tissue paper (yay tissue paper!) and the box are meant to protect the sun-sensitive ones. It’s also discreet for those still in the broom closet.

Can the spirit's altar serve as a charging box?

I personally don’t believe in the use of charging boxes or any “energy supplements” for your spirits of that sort.  I find it’s an unnecessary cost at worst, and at best, a sweet gift for your spirit.  However, spirits have the means to energize themselves - they live in their own universe.  They can get themselves food, water, sleep, all of those necessities!  They are not dependent on you to have the energy they need.  Anything you give them that is extra is a gift or offering.  Not to mention, you can easily charge a spirit’s vessel with energy by holding it in your hands and imagining energy flowing from you, into the vessel.

That being said, some people also believe that charging boxes are necessary to keep the binding strong and full.  Again, I hardly think this is true, because in my personal bindings, they are connected directly to the spirit’s energy.  Plus, if the vessel needs energy or you feel that the connection is weak for an extended period of time, you could simply charge it with sun or moonlight, or again, use your own energy.

However, if you really wish to create a portion of your altar that will charge the vessel or charge your spirit as a present, you certainly can!  I’d sort of make a “pad” of energy, like one of those charging mats, but I wouldn’t connect it to your energy.  Plug it into the Earth, so the charging can come directly from the ground, and doesn’t drain you personally.  I hope this was helpful!  Thank you!
