IFD Author Showcase - oopsabird’s SamiCharlie (Wonder Woman 2017) Works
Hello all! Since today is February 15 was International Fanworks Day, I thought I’d get around to something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while, which is a masterpost of all the Wonder Woman (2017) fics I’ve written for the pairing Charlie/Sameer! Yay!! Shamless self-promotion time!!
Click under the cut for all 15 of my works for this ship in the order I originally posted them! Plenty of reading to fill up your reading week or procrastinate whatever you “should” be doing lol
Unfortunately this probably won’t show up in the tags due to the amount of links it has, so reblogs would be super super appreciated, as are comments and kudos from those of you who click through!
These works represent the small public part of the huge amount of writing growth I have had in the last two years, and a big effort to build a ship tag from the ground up with my friends, and I am so so proud of them!! Every word of a comment or kudos means the absolute world to me, as making these fics has helped me rediscover my creative self again after so many years of being estranged from that part of me - they are an expression of creative joy.
Hope you enjoy!
Sameer is bisexual (or pan, there aren’t really words for him in 1918), and has loved and been attracted to both men and women for as long as he can remember. It would be awfully foolish to limit himself, he thinks, when there is so much beauty out there to admire across all genders. He flirts with women loudly and enthusiastically, and when not in France he makes a point of keeping his dalliances with men far more discreet, for practical reasons. But he has never been ashamed of who he loves — it’s just not his nature. His heart is big and it has room for everyone.
Charlie is gay, the definition of a solitary “confirmed bachelor” by the time he’s forty years old. After twenty years in the army, he wouldn’t know what to do with a woman if one bit him on the nose, really. Being Scottish and raised in the late 1800’s, he’s also so very deeply repressed that even so much as a kiss on the cheek from a handsome lad would make him blush like damn tomato — Sami makes a point of doing so often for precisely that very reason, when they are in private spaces. It also helps Charlie grow more comfortable with expressing his own affection, over time, enough to start returning the favour. And that makes Sami beam like the sun.
Charlie fell in love almost the moment they met, when Sameer first grasped his hand between both of his own to shake it with a warm, shining smile and said “Good to meet you my friend — you can call me Sami, s’il vous plaît.” After that and five minutes of conversation, he was gone completely, laughing too loudly at Sami’s jokes and hanging on his every charming word — even though he’d rather eat his hat than admit it to anyone. There was certainly no way that Sameer, debonair and handsome and clever as can be, would ever feel the same way about him. Charlie was just the odd side of plain and ordinary, nothing special. But that was alright. He liked being Sami’s friend, getting to sit close to the light that shone off of him, getting the chance to make a smile light up those big kindly brown eyes. So he would survive, content with a steadfast and lively friendship. He would make do just fine.
It did take time for Sameer to get on the same page, that was for sure. He came to like Charlie as a person almost instantly, once he realized there was far more to the man than simply another ordinary British soldier, and they became fast best friends — getting one another in and out of trouble every other day, practically inseparable. But falling in love with him... that crept up on Sami, slowly. Little patches of fondness knitting themselves across his heart as they got to know each other more deeply (Charlie sings, Charlie has a gentle side, Charlie has a playful heart and a crooked smile), day by day and bit by bit — until one day a year or so down the road he heard Charlie burst into laughter at one of his wisecracks and felt a special warmth blossom in his chest and realized- oh. love. that was love. and maybe, if Sameer was honest with himself for once, he’d admit that it had been growing there the entire time.
some SamiCharlie headcanons about sleep
Charlie is an early riser. Always has been, always will be — it’s a habit deeply ingrained from spending his entire adult life in the military and his childhood on his parents’ farm, and it has only ever faded during the time when he was drinking heavily and everything got woozy. Even if the night before was bad, he rises early, stubborn. After the war, he likes to get up just before the sun, make his morning cup of tea and jam toast and enjoy them in the quiet before the rest of London wakes and starts making noise. This has the added bonus of giving him plenty of time to use the washroom before it gets taken over by Sami for his extensive and somewhat fussy morning routine. (When he leaves the bed, he always pauses to tuck the blankets back up over still-sleeping Sami, and press a quick quiet kiss to the top of his curly head with a murmured “Mornin’, sunshine.” and a very soft private smile).
Sameer hates early mornings. It was always his least favourite part of military life, apart from the dismal tasteless food. Given the choice he would much rather dedicate the early morning hours to a bit more of what he cheekily refers to as “my beauty sleep” (a bit of Steve’s teasing he took to unironically out of spite), skipping breakfast in favour of a stiff coffee and a hearty lunch later on. It always makes him smile when he comes shuffling into the kitchen in his dressing gown, blinking blearily at the world, and finds Charlie sitting at the table with the morning paper and a steaming cup of coffee sitting next to his own mostly-finished tea. (As he picks up the mug he’ll be sure to lean down and give Charlie a grateful peck on the cheek and drawl sleepily “Good morning, matraba, merci.” with a warm grateful grin).
On Sundays, when there is nowhere much that needs getting to during the day, Charlie makes an exception to his routine. This is the day when he will have his toast, make his tea, then get the paper and bring it with his cuppa back to bed. Sami will still be there, buried under a mound of blankets with not much more than a tuft of curly hair sticking out, and when Charlie slips in to sit down next to him there is a near-guarantee of Sami mumbling something incoherent and shuffling over close to curl up by his side with an arm slung across Charlie’s middle. Charlie will smile, and run his fingers once through Sami’s hair, and then he’ll take up the paper to settle in and keep on reading and sipping his tea as usual, peaceful and content, while Sami snores softly beside him and feels just the same. (Sometimes, Charlie even dozes off again himself, lulled into relaxation by the warmth of Sami by his side and the knowledge that they have nowhere to be right now except for right here, with each other).
[matraba is an english-alphabet spelling of مطربة, which is means “songbird” or “one who sings”]

Sameer has spent a long time pretending he doesn't hear Charlie's nightmares, both to shelter his friend's pride and hide his own feelings.
Then the war ends, and Charlie gets sober, and damn near everything changes.
