sometimes, when I am sad, I think about the idea of Sameer finding a little orphan kitten while walking back from the theatre one night, and picking her up because he is a sap with a soft spot for hard-luck cases and carefully carrying her home in his coat. when he arrives home and initially presents the kitten to Charlie, Charlie is like “eugh, no, it’s gonna put holes in the furniture and scream all bloody day and bite me like that spoiled wee beastie of Etta’s, we cannae keep it” and then it takes literally less than 30 seconds of Sami doing 🥺 puppy eyes and going “habibi pleeeeease??” for him to cave and throw up his hands like “fine! but it’s YOUR bloody cat!” and then get his face smooched as Sami beams with excitement like “thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!”

cue montage of: Charlie being frustrated by Cat Antics such as Sleep On Kilt, or Walk On Piano, or Scream All Bloody Night, or Steal Spot Next To Sami in Bed; Charlie having his heart completely melted by the sight of Sami playing with and cooing at this tiny kitten; Sami laughing to himself at how much the cat and Charlie have similar personalities and behaviours while Charlie refuses to acknowledge that he has anything in common with “that wee ankle-biting menace” (and fails to notice that he and the cat are both examples of Sami’s soft spot for hard luck cases); Charlie begrudgingly admitting that the cat maybe makes a good foot-warmer for his afternoon couch naps, when she isn’t trying to eat his socks; Charlie using cuddling/petting the cat to help him calm down from an unexpected panic attack; the cat escaping one night while Sami is away visiting friends and Charlie staying up literally all night searching the city for her in the rain, worried sick, and then crying and hugging the “furry little bastard” when he drags his sorry self home at dawn and finds her sleeping safely under a box on the fire escape; Sameer coming home to find Charlie asleep on the couch with the cat curled up on his chest, and smiling to himself at the sight of his two loves finally getting along
