Wisdom
Fertility
Immortality
In fairy tales and the Bible, the apple is associated with temptation, sin, and the fall of man.
.
An old-fashioned “gift” for a teacher was an apple. Some people still do but it’s pretty rare these days. There are apples all over learning materials, especially when it relates to elementary school. They have been tied to knowledge and wisdom for a very long time.
Apples are tied to multiple deities, usually leaning towards the feminine; Gaia, Aphrodite or Venus, Avalon, and Idun are just a few examples. The mythical theme for the apple is love, beauty, immortality, fertility, and abundance.
Many pagans use apples cut crosswise – so it shows the five-pointed star in the middle – as ritual offerings. The apple is seen as nature’s symbol of the five elements: earth, air, fire, water, and spirit.
Apples are also tied to biblical lore, being the fruit that Eve offered to Adam that was the “original sin”. The apple is a proxy for temptation and is also used in Snow White as a way the evil queen tries to bespell her.
