Re-Reading H&S Part 3

enter: the asshole

reading this, and seeing again how smug Bill is at the beginning, really makes me appreciate what happens to him in the sequel so much more. i’m thinking back to the recent, hm, three chapters, i think. how he’s suffering and all his plans have gone to shit. and i really really really love how i didn’t even notice Bill’s gradual transition in emotion from his triangle form to being an actual human. that’s probably why the sequel hits so hard. we go from Bill having actual emotions straight back to how he is in this chapter, and it’s heartbreaking.

oh, Dipper. “Mabel will be okay. but i’m dooming someone else to die oh shit. bUT MABEL.” i like your priorities, kid.

“Fine, but I get to sleep in your room,” Bill negotiated.

Bill how is this part of your plan. why and how are you this gay already omg and of course the first thing you do is run away. ngl i really hoped he was running around with his hospital gown flung open or naked. if i were an artist, i’d totally draw that scene with Bill fiddling with the catheter though, just because the scene i’ve created in my head about it would be funny as heck to see.

Re-reading H&S Part 2

chapter 2 is when stuff starts happening. meaning, Dipper’s shit starts getting ruined. i completely forgot that the foreshadowing happened this early on in the fic, and that is, like, amazing? fanfic writers that are able to establish the Big Bad early in fics have always impressed me. probably because i can never decide where i’m going with my fics in the middle, let alone the end.

my first time reading it, i thought it was Bill making grabby hands at Dipper and that he was lying. hoo boy was i wrong, but in the best way. but Dipper was fooled too, so that makes me feel better about myself. this is why i’m glad i’m re-reading because i’m noticing things i didn’t the first time. i love any type of media that has more things for you to notice the second time around.

also, take a damn shower, you filthy man.

Re-reading H&S Part 1

okay so it’s been a bit since i’ve read it, and i told myself i wouldn’t do it until the sequel is done, but eff it. i love it so much that i need to read it again. so, i decided to do a re-read of For the Health and Safety of Mabel Pines by the wonderful charliesundies AKA @charm0nder

i’ll be tagging it as #doodle reads, so if you don’t want to see my rambles, blacklist it. i’ll be doing a part for each chapter.

the first chapter is so cute, and definitely paints a good picture of where the twins are in life. it’s different, but homey and comfortable. these are the characters we know and love, just older! not much happens in the first chapter, but it did its job of setting the, well, setting. Dipper and Mabel’s dialog is so familiar, adorable. and i especially love that Dipper is so encouraging of Mabel’s crafting/career. their sibling love is so palpable and it makes my heart swell.

well, off to chapter 2!
