my vision for transfem shadow essentially hinges on Everybody always telling her who she is from the moment she was created. always being used, being defined by someone else, being forced into a box and often manipulated and confused, never getting a true grasp on herself. her identity as "shadow the hedgehog" is a fickle thing, but one she can only decide for herself, and in a perfect world her decision is a transgender one (one maria plays a part in as well as the person who always loved and accepted her as is). key word PERFECT world. i think, at the very least in game canon, shadow would never actually discover this about herself. the ways she's been treated, having so many morals and ulterior motives and identities forced upon her, she's regressed and retreated too far into herself to ever entertain the idea of becoming anyone other than Shadow the Hedgehog, the one who everyone has tried to change, and who stays the same in spite of them. in a beautiful world where black doom didn't RUIN her life and self-image in the longterm i think transfem shadow would be unequivocally on the table :) but to me she's a tragedy of sorts. i like it
