        “Charmander!”

        It was impossible to stay on the sidelines after a loss that bad. Sure, Pokémon fainted, and maybe you got a little used to it, but Ash never got used to it when they didn’t get up right away. 

        Guilt pulled him to his knees, and Ash scooped up the young fire type, checking on his tail before anything else; pulling him closer only when he saw the flame was stable.

        He had been warned. Misty knew his opponent was too strong, but Ash always had to prove her wrong. And now he wished he hadn’t tried, so embarrassed by his pride that he didn’t look up at all. He didn’t wanna see Misty or Brock hovering over him. He didn’t wanna see the victor leave.

        But as bad as Ash felt, he couldn’t say it to Charmander’s face. He knew, somewhere in that brain of his, that his Pokémon was hurting more than he was. So he forced a smile, and boy did it look it, voice shaking ever slightly as he reassured him. “It’s okay. You did your best out there.”

         Shyly, so shyly did the little fox step forward, it could smell human. It didn't like humans but seeing the other fire type it had to bark a warning. "Hey you! There's rain coming if you didn't know." It knew it hated rain, maybe the other was the same way?

She would watch, sometimes, as Loki and their Mother practiced their magicks. It had already been discovered, rather LOUDLY, that Muninn had the precise opposite of an aptitude for the arcane. Most attempts to teach her anything more than a glamour ended in disaster. But she loved to watch as they practiced-- and as Loki learned. Their mother was endlessly patient, and it was good on him, she knew. He handled Frigga’s teachings better than most of Odinn’s. 

Sparks fly from the Queen’s fingertips, and Muninn claps, delighted at the show for a moment, which draws a smile from the Vanir woman. It was rare that Muninn DIDN’T sit in on the lessons, simply to watch. The the Allmother was the same, each time-- speaking to both of them, and not just ignoring her daughter. 

When Loki masters the little sparking display, the grin he shoots his sister is pure smug pleasure, and Muninn grins wildly at him-- then at Frigga. 

These days were her favorite ones.
