Catherine of Aragon + talents

SO MANY. My head canon for her is that Catalina is a brilliant leader - she knows how to Work Things politically and pragmatically but she’s very much about Her People and her loyalty is a lovely lovely thing. Related to that she is very good at people and people skills - her kindness is a big part of that but she’s also naturally very able at getting people to like her. 

I also tend to think that she knew how to use fashion to her advantage. And learning - I think you can absolutely see that in her. Also I think she would (and did historically!) make a fantastic Commander and Leader in general. 

(I want a President Catalina AU now. So much).

7. Historical dress, uniform, costume?

American Revolution Era and Jazz Age 20s New York/ 30s London. Oh and 1500s Ottoman Empire. 

20. Who, if anyone, is your historical crush?

I don’t really have one, to be honest. I personally think it’s disrespectful since the historical figure has passed on, but if there is one “crush” it would perhaps be Sulieman the Magnificent or Lorenzo de’Medici for what they were able to do politically and it amazes me on what they were able to do.

26. Who do you think is a forgotten hero we should know about and admire? 

Salahddin. 

He ended the Crusades that killed many innocent Palestinians and innocent Muslims. The way he treated his prisioners was that he fed them and took care of them. He was a very kind hearted and just man, and everyone seem to forget about him. 

27. What’s your favorite historical “what if” scenario?

My favorite one is by @vanderbilt on a “what if” Prince Arthur Tudur never died, and what if he did lived. That was very interesting. I also like the “what if” the Ottoman Empire didn’t fall in 1922, that one is very interesting to me, as well.

8. What is the last thing you have read, listened to, or spoken of with historical reference?

I finally caved to watching Magnificent Century, so I’ve been pulling up episodes at down moments during work and trying to do some research into everyone featured to better understand it all. Needless to say, I mostly watch for the female cast members.

9. Favourite historical film?

At the moment it’s actually Crimson Peak? I’ve always really liked the Gothic period in literature and it was directed by de Toro, so it was visually beautiful as well.

21. What is your favourite history-based game?

Um…does Dragon Age count? It happens in alternative world and all that, but the countries tend to line up against ones from our world (Orlais to the France of Marie Antoinette, Tevinter to Ancient Rome, and so on) that you can actually introduce other historical influences with ease.

27. What’s your favourite historical “What if…” scenario?

Anne Boleyn managing to survive, either by having another child or not. I really love all the different interpretations that can be done, although I try to avoid the ones that toss characterization out the window to champion Anne.

Allowing Arthur Tudor and Henry Fitzroy to survive.

Honestly, I’m starting to realize as well that as soon as I hear, “Unfortunately the child was lost…” I instantly imagine what would have happened if they lived. The same with other historical figures with tragic fates?

Anne Boleyn & secret delight

Determined to portray herself in a more practical light then her older sister and other court ladies, Anne never fantasized aloud over what her future husband would be like. Instead she kept it all within her mind, adding more structure to the image as she grew older. By the time of her execution she was bitter and saddened enough to imagine that no man could ever match up to what she had imagined. But, truth be told, Henry Percy was always the better match to her dreamworld than Henry VIII.

Magical verse: Anne might have only a few lingering strains of magic from her mother’s line, but it always came out stronger in her than either of her siblings. Her spells were always somewhat hazy, never enough to get her into Hogwarts, but her Potions work was unimaginably powerful and she loved nothing more than discovering brews and crafting her own.

And because I’ve already flaunted one OTP already: Anne always enjoyed the “practice” kisses she conducted with her sister-in-law a bit more than was proper. (Not that either girl minded.)
