Jailhouse Waltz : Kit’s Ball || Prince Hans & the Hyenas
5. Well, great, the guards arrested you both. What did you do?
Ed frantically yanked at the chain. He had to get out of the collar’s grip, he had to have someone it take it off, it was cutting off his air supply, he couldn’t breathe right, he was going to choke – good-bye, cruel world, it hadn’t exactly been a blast living. A jostle startled him, he suddenly realised he could breathe fine if he didn’t fight back against the collar that chained him to the wall. How depressing this was: Don’t try to resist forces that did you wrong, and you’ll be well. He looked to the left, saw Shenzi glaring at him. She neither seemed to be very pleased with her situation, the situation identical to Ed’s, but it was obvious that she didn’t want to be irritated in her current state, and that she still would reprimand her three companions if they worsened their situation.
“You could’ve avoided this whole drama if you three”, she now scowled at Ed, Hans, and Banzai, “hadn’t acted like that!” She suddenly started clawing at her collar as well – for which she blamed Ed. If if hadn’t been for his antics, she likely wouldn’t have noticed that it was too tight, maybe not _too_ tight, but tight; and their situation definitely wasn’t her fault, no, not at all! All she had tried to do was to keep her friends from doing the stupid, ridiculous thing, and –! She was _mortified_ to be seen like that, like the pathetic guard dogs she, Banzai, and Ed had mocked before, with these distressing things around their necks! She however had to admit that Banzai had drawn the shortest straw – though it was almost pleasurable that he wasn’t talking, the circumstances of this matter certainly weren’t, and she did feel sorry for him. He seemed to feel the same way, judging by how he kept tearing at his muzzle. If he didn’t watch out, he would quickly injure his face. It was a miracle that the guards had managed to put that thing on him …
Shenzi glanced at Hans – had he been chained up, did they make him wear any sort of cuffs? Could he perhaps use his handy fingers for their liberation? Heck, she wouldn’t even be mad if he, or anybody for that matter, would take that thing of Banzai’s face – his situation was unquestionably the worst. “Heeey”, she purred, “… are you okay over there?”

Aren’t We Dashing? Mirage & ???|| DRP Ball
In hindsight, Mirage should've known what the dress code was. It was a ball for goodness sake, which meant ballgowns. Taffeta and ruffles were all around, fluffing and flowing all around as couples spun and waltzed around the floor. She felt very under dressed at this point. But then again, they’d let her in when she presented the invitation, so maybe she was fine? It wasn’t that important anyway.Mirage was here to have a good time. She came for the party, the drinks, and maybe get a job offer or two.
Steeling her nerves and gripping her clutch purse, Mirage stepped out into the ballroom itself. The smooth fitted black dress slinking along with her steps, as her pointed heels clicked along the marble floors. She started feeling more confident as she walked, and when the bar came into view, she knew she at least had a destination. Alright tonight is going to be a great night. Right? Right. No one’s coming in to sweep me off my feet, and I’ll be damned if anyone thinks they can. Strong, cool, and confident. She had this.
Dressed to Impress // Mary Poppins and Prince Hans
Note: This was just a quick, informal exchange Jenny and I wrote in regard to the ball invitations that Prince Hans received from Kit, and I thought it would be fun to convert it into a pre-ball drabble. OwO All actions taken and dialogue spoken by Mary Poppins here were approved of and written by @a-cheery-disposition. Forgive me if I’m rusty, it’s been a good while now! Thanks!
“Good heavens, I need to choose a frock.”
Down in the bottom of the magical nanny’s carpet bag, Prince Hans followed along with keen interest in his hazel eyes, watching as Mary picked through entire racks of dresses and formal wear she had kept over the centuries of her life. He was uneasy for a dozen reasons relating to Prince Kit’s guest list most of all, and the people he was sure he would see there, and the fact that he hadn’t exactly left the safety of Denmark with Eric and Ariel in quite some time. But as uneasy as he was, it always settled his nerves to be by Mary’s side.
“I haven’t been to a royal ball since... well, Arendelle,” Hans said, and ran a hand through his thick auburn hair as he watched Mary mull over a number of beautiful selections. “Eric and Ariel’s parties don’t really count, since I’ve been helping arrange those for the past few years. Kit invited me, so I doubt it’s some kind of trap, but I heard that he also asked for the Queen of Arendelle to be there...”
“And if it somehow is a trap, we will make a polite, but hasty exit.”
“No one has tried to kill me in about a year now and I feel much more settled, at least.”
“Good,” Mary said, looking up from her dresses with a fond smile. “You’ve worked hard to come this far. You deserve some relaxation.”
“So do you. You work so much these days. They won’t miss their nanny on a fine Tuesday night, will they?”
“Not much they can do, when their nanny has been summoned to a royal ball, don’t you think?”
“This is true.” Hans wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close and pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. She reached to hold his hand on her shoulder.
“I’m not certain how I should dress... Full skirts are in fashion there, are they not? It’s been some time since I visited Foix de Lille...”
“Same here, though I’ve been trying to keep in touch with my friend Ella and visit her when I can. The fashion seemed to have taken a bright and colorful, sort of festive turn, last time I was there.”
Mary smiled fondly, and leaned close with a whisper. “What color shall I wear, darling?”
He leaned his head on hers. “You look so beautiful in everything... I’m planning on wearing white, gold, and blue attire, as a gesture toward Denmark’s hospitality toward me, though I hope Eric and I don’t match too much! We’re practically brothers anyhow, so I suppose it doesn’t matter. Similar colors would be lovely on you, I’m certain.”
“I shall see what I can find.” With a kiss to his cheek, Mary slipped away from the warmth of his arm and continued along through her racks of dresses, and Hans fell into step shortly behind her, admiring the wonderful fashions in her collection. Periodically, Mary turned back to him, holding out a variety of dresses, each of them excellent in their own individual way, and he could only imagine the way she must have looked wearing them in the centuries they belonged to.
“Oof, that last gold one is gorgeous.”
“You think so? I worry I would look washed out... I can add a bit of color at the neckline, and I do have some nice accessories to pair with it. For an occasion like this one, jewelry and gloves is a must... Or this dress, perhaps? The simplicity actually appeals to me here, and again, perhaps in a nice blue... Oh, or this? I like this one, but that material seems a bit bothersome... but I do have a soft spot for butterflies...”
“I have a soft spot for that neckline..”
“Hans, I recognize that expression, and now is not the time.”
“Sorry!"
With so much to choose from, and for such a momentous occasion, it was hardly surprising how difficult it was to settle on just one. Doing his best to assist, Hans reached for both dresses Mary was currently weighing between, holding one out in each hand to allow her to evaluate them side by side. She touched the lace sleeves on one of the options, considering things carefully.
“Well... Perhaps this one? I like that it covers more of the arm. It makes it a bit more adult, in my eyes, and I’m certainly not a girl anymore... It looks tidier than the cream and gold one... And goodness knows pink looks very nice on me...”
“You seem much more convinced of this one. I think that’s a good sign in favor of it.”
“But do you like it?”
“Yes, Mary. It looks beautiful on you. Pink really does accentuate your coloring,” he said with a soft smile. “You wore something close to this color at the -- oh, that’s right, I just remembered. It wasn’t a royal ball, but there was something similar. The party, at Le Château des Ténèbres. I was... in much darker fashion, then. It was a villain party at the core of things, and I dressed a little more viciously than I would have otherwise. Black, green, and purple in honor of the hostess. ...Queen Elsa definitely wouldn’t have liked that one.”
“I remember it. I thought it looked very nice, but I must admit, I prefer you in something lighter.” Taking the dress gently from Hans, Mary hung it carefully next to a mirror, setting it aside. After how intimate they had been in recent months, she didn’t give a second thought to moving on to the racks of corsets, finding the right one for the dress shape. “I’ll have to be sure not to drink so much. Not that I’m remotely in the same state I was back then...”
Hans gave a small groan of agreement. “Ugh, yes. I might avoid drinking much, myself. I’ve hardly touched alcohol at all since making such a fool of myself at Eric’s New Years party last year, good lord. I haven’t been anywhere public enough to be that ridiculous since. Just with you, I suppose.” He trailed after her to the more intimate sections of her wardrobe, and brushed her hand lightly. “I’m glad things have settled the way they have... I didn’t like to see you cry then, or ever. That whole mess at the party at Le Château des Ténèbres was the first time I really got to hold you, though...”
“I thought you were going to kiss me back then, you know...” Mary said, glancing at him.
“I might have liked to,” Hans admitted, smiling a bit sheepishly, “but I really couldn’t let myself think about you in that way, not at that time...”
“I suppose not. I suppose it doesn’t matter now.”
“I’m glad it doesn’t matter now.” Hans caught her fingers lightly and stepped back to her, pressing a light, affectionate kiss to her lips, right there in the middle of the corset racks. She kissed him back lightly, her free hand resting on his elbow.
“...I feel the same,” she said, her gaze terribly fond as their eyes met.
For Hans, there was something on the tip of his tongue even in such ordinary moments as these, something that he knows she knows, but he’s never actually said it out loud... Still, those three little words catch in his breath, and he just kisses her again, blushing in a sort of struggling, bashful way -- a complete nerd. But, there will be a time for words like those, eventually...
At the moment, there were more pressing issues to attend to. Prince Charming’s ball was in the very near future now, and there was attire to select and other preparations to be made. Happier than he ever had been, even in the most ordinary of moments as a walk with Mary Poppins through her wardrobe, Hans kept those words to himself for the time being, and the pair continued on with getting ready to attend the prince’s ball together.
