Unconformity This site is found in Morley Quarry, a small but “Geologically important site” near Shepshed, England. The lower rocks are Precambrian in age, part of a 600 million year old rock sequence call the Charnwood volcanics. If you look at the top of these rocks, you can see a rugged, unconformable surface. That surface was an erosional layer; the hard, 400 million year old igneous rocks were exposed at the surface where they eroded to form that boundary before new material was deposited on top. The next layer up is Triassic-aged sediments, deposited as mountains grew to the west from the collision with North America. Charnwood Forest

Irish-bred and born, Charnwood Forest was one of the many talents to emerge from Godolphin stables. He was a multiple graded stakes winner in Britain, including the Challenge Stakes and Queen Anne Stakes. He was retired to stud in 1997 with four wins from 11 starts

Charnwood Forest left behind five full crops of foals before his death in 2001. That same year, his best son, Firebreak, won the Mill Reef Stakes
