@charzoid That’s a really good point! There are a ton of characters who are annoyed and fed up with Ouma--Ouma acts annoying on purpose a lot of the time, so it’d honestly be weirder in my opinion if the other characters never got frustrated with him. But annoyance and hatred are two very different emotions.

Certainly a lot of characters come close to hating Ouma--but that’s only after chapter 4, when he completely crosses the line and spirals fully into his “evil villain” persona, later claiming to be the ringleader responsible for the whole killing game in chapter 5.

The whole point of this twist was that Ouma, while occasionally bratty and annoying, never seemed genuinely evil or malicious in the early chapters, which is why it was difficult for the charactes to hate him. Later on, they do start to hate him, but mostly due to not having all the facts, as they genuinely believe he’s an evil mastermind and Junko’s successor. It’s sort of hard not to hate someone when you believe they’re responsible for wiping out most of the world’s population and that they take pleasure from seeing other people suffer.

Later on though, they find evidence that their assumptions about Ouma was wrong, and it was impossible for charaters like Saihara or even Maki to maintain the exact same opinion of him after that. Like the player, their opinions change as they gain access to new information. That’s why it’s a really, really good idea to replay ndrv3 at least once after finishing it the first time, in orde to go back and look at what Ouma says with a new understanding of what he was trying to accomplish, when he was lying, and when he wasn’t.

Anyway, I definitely agree with you! I wouldn’t say all of the characters necessarily liked him, but that doesn’t mean they outright hated him either.

Sexuality Headcanon:

For me, I see Kaito as pansexual.

Gender Headcanon:

I see Kaito as cisgender personally.

A ship I have with said character:

Ah I will always ship him with Shuichi. Always and forever.

A BROTP I have with said character:

Kokichi - totally. Kinda in a love/hate friendship way but they're definitely buddies.

I can also see him close with Maki, Leon and Kazuichi.

A NOTP I have with said character:

Personally I didn't enjoy the Maki/Kaito arc in DRV3. It just kind of felt too one sided to me. I also don't ship him romantically with Kokichi.

A random headcanon:

I have this HC that Kaito was under an immense pressure at home.

I'm not sure if there's info on his home life (sorry if there is and this is wrong) but I just feel like maybe his dad was super hard on him and set unrealistic expectations. Like maybe he was too shy as a kid or maybe had a career path in mind like a footballer or something but his dad was like NO. And so he puts on this front, this confidence, because its what his dad has turned him into.

Buuuut that's just me!

General Opinion over said character:

I LOVE Kaito. I think he is absolutely hilarious. I love that he clearly thinks he's the protagonist and that Shuichi is his sidekick. And I sobbed like a baby at his fate - totally ripped my heart out.
