The Roar of the Track: Experiencing the Thrill of a NASCAR Race at Richmond Raceway

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, I attended my third NASCAR Cup Series Race at Richmond Raceway. Historically, Richmond Raceway featured two race dates; however, this year, only one event was scheduled. This occasion marked my first experience at the summer race, as I typically attend the spring race with my father.

Upon arrival, the temperature was notably high. We visited the garage area to observe the teams working on their cars and waited for the commencement of the red-carpet event, where drivers greeted fans and provided autographs prior to the race. Interacting with fellow NASCAR enthusiasts has consistently been enjoyable; the collective passion for racing fosters a positive environment. Given the 90-degree heat, I realized that wearing jeans was not ideal attire. For future events, I recommend packing several bottles of water, bringing a personal fan, opting for light-colored clothing, wearing sneakers, and applying sunscreen.

This year, I received autographs from Ross Chastain (on my hat) and Josh Berry (on my Richmond Raceway shirt). Although I did not obtain signatures from Bubba Wallace, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, or Tyler Reddick, I hope to do so at a future race. By the race’s start at 7:30pm, conditions had become more comfortable.

Tyler Reddick secured victory in stage 1, while Bubba Wallace won stage 2. The race included two cautions resulting from on-track incidents. The initial caution involved Daniel Suarez and Ty Gibbs, leading to Tyler Reddick being spun and finishing stage 2 in 26th place after initially winning stage 1. The second major incident led to a multi-car collision involving Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski, Chase Briscoe, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, and Justin Haley. Kyle Larson threw a block on Chase Briscoe and Chase Briscoe checked up. Kyle Busch ran over him and hooked Chase Elliott. According to Chase Elliott's in-car radio, "The 8 just came down and clipped you in the right rear," which summarized part of the incident. Kyle Busch also caused damage to Ross Chastain’s vehicle, and Denny Hamlin sustained right-front damage.

This marked Chase Elliott’s first non-finish of the season, resulting in William Byron securing the regular season championship. Bubba Wallace’s pit crew experienced a mishap with a loose wheel, which Chase Briscoe’s team assisted in rectifying, thereby impacting Wallace’s chance to contend for the win. Austin Dillon won the race.

Results were as follows: Denny Hamlin finished 10th, Ross Chastain 19th, Chase Briscoe 13th, Ty Gibbs 18th, Tyler Reddick 34th, Bubba Wallace 28th, Kyle Busch 16th, Brad Keselowski 9th, Kyle Larson 6th, and Ryan Blaney 3rd. I look forward to attending next year’s race.
