It had been a few days since Adam had so much as contacted Belle. There was always a few days a month when he kept to himself, and most of his friends knew why. He didn’t like to talk about it so he rarely brought it up. Belle was not one of those friends though. She knew only what Adam had showed her of himself and that alone was vulnerability. He knew he should have at least called or texted her but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He’d isolated himself and now he knew he regretted it. As a distraction he went to the book shop in town to pick up a few new reads. Most of which were recommended to him by Belle. He tried not to think of that though. He knew he had to avoid the library and this was the next best thing. Adam hadn’t expected to turn the corner of the bookshelves and run into Belle. Stunned, he froze. He was already exhausted and he didn’t have the energy to deal with confrontation now nor had he been able to sleep. “Belle! he said a little surprised. He should have known despite being a librarian she probably still bought books at times. He avoided any and all eye contact with her. His eyes were tired with dark circles beneath them. He didn’t know what else to say and he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “Um, hi.”
