It hadn’t been long since she’d separated from him, but Rapunzel had some earth-shaking news to tell Flynn. In the small window of time when he’d been off getting their dinner, she’d been approached by a woman who felt like a ghost of the past, even if she had never met her before. As much as she wanted to keep this to herself for the night and tell him in the morning, just to keep their seemingly perfect evening going in that direction, Rapunzel knew that he would want to know now. They were trying to be better at not keeping things from each other, and as much as she wanted to trust Zhan, who seemed to have purer intentions than her sister, there was something about her that made the blonde uneasy. She supposed there was nothing about someone with the name Gothel who could ever make her feel otherwise.
As the night grew near and the sun was nearly set, it was almost time to set off the lanterns in the same fashion that they’d been on her birthday in the past. Rapunzel didn’t know if she’d ever get used to seeing them up so close after staring through a window for most of her life. Instead, now, she watched them beside someone who made her heart skip a beat every time he said her name or looked her way. With their lanterns in hand, she and Flynn made their way toward the water. “I have something to tell you,” she started, slow, “and I think it might freak you out, but something happened while you were gone before. I’m okay, and we can talk about it tomorrow, it’s just--I want this night to be perfect, y’know? It’s been kind of perfect so far, and I don’t wanna ruin it.” Rapunzel paused, stopping in her tracks to look at him for a moment. “As long as I’m with you, we’ll be fine, right?”
